DAWSON FOLLOWS ROCKY OUT OF CLEMS
Says Dawson: “It’s not particularly the start to 2008 I envisaged, but at the same time, situations like these can be invigorating. I’ve gained invaluable experience looking after some of the agency’s largest clients and working alongside Rocky, one of the nicest blokes in advertising. Hopefully I can use this experience to take advantage of some of the amazing creative opportunities out there."

What a loss! Maddox is nuts...I would have thought Gary was exactly the kind of creative he needed. Maybe he should have given it more than 2 weeks to find out.
As a suit in this business Gary is by far one of the best senior creatives I've had the pleasure of working with. Passionate, fiesty and always looking for a better way in, he's prepared to fight for the work, he's brilliant in meetings (true CD material) and I only hope he ends up somewhere with clients and an agency who appreciate his talent.
Gary's a nice bloke and a good creative. Is this ageism, perhaps?
Hey Gary,
I was read this quote this morning from Paul Ardens book "It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be" whilst taking my morning dump, saw this article and thought it might be of some help, for you as well as Rocky.
Mr Arden doth quote:
GETTING FIRED CAN BE A POSITIVE CAREER MOVE.
Being fired often means that you at odds with your company.
It means the job isn't right for you.
I have been fired five times, and each time my career took a step forward.
Being fired used to be a negative on your CV or resume.
Now some head hunters find it an asset because it can show initiative.

Hope it is of some help.
cheers and good luck

ageism? how old is gary?
Despite the thinking behind Maddox being on a rampage, I think you'll find the political turmoil is beyond the creative influence.
Gary's 56. But he does a lot of yoga.
I worked with and for Paul Arden at the Saatchi mothership in the 1980's.
He says he was fired 5 times.
At that stage I'd only been fired once.
I resigned from that job and returned to Australia.
Then my career really took off.
When I eventually pulled the pin, I'd been fired 9 times.
Can anybody top that?
M.A.
Wow, I hope I get fired, sounds great.
Who are you, M.A.? I too worked at Saatchis from 87-89 as a (very) junior writer and got to present to the great man himself a few times. Is the 'Hang onto your hats, girls. You're fired!' story true?
M.A. - I know those initials.
I would've sacked him too if he'd worked for me.
I've just been fired for spending too much time on this fuckin' blog.
I think it depends where you get fired from.
Fired by Clems = good
Fired by Droga5 = not good
M.A was fired from Charlotte street for not buying a round at the Carpenters for 4 years
MA never got a round at the Merc either.
Gary,
all I can say is trust in Karma
5:26, I left in 1985, so we probably didn't cross paths. I don't have a clue about the 'hang on to you hats' story, but it sounds intriguing. Perhaps you could elaborate.
8:06 &8:42, yeah, sorry, I was a real skinflint before I became a millionaire.
M.A.
Ha, MA. Thank God you have the BLOG. It allows you to write again.
Gary, give Hardcastle a ring.
