COUNTDOWN TO EARTH HOUR: 8PM TOMORROW NIGHT

EARTH-HOUR-90.jpgEarth Hour 2008 will be held from 8 - 9pm tomorrow night.
The idea, originally created by Leo Burnett and WWF-Australia in Sydney last year has taken off not only around the country but also around the globe. Tomorrow night, 35 countries and over 370 cities and towns will be participating in the big switch off.
The organisers are asking the advertising industry to play their part. Before you leave the agency tonight, please shut down your computer properly and switch off the lights on your way out.
Agencies on St Kilda Road are urged to be particularly conscientious about turning off their lights - Bullshit Boulevard will be included in the electricity company's monitoring of Melbourne's usage tomorrow night.

yeah i saw no more than a handful lights go out in the city from my roof.

nice to see the SMH photos making it look bigger than it was. seems like they've learned a bit from leos and the rest of us.

Melbourne pretty much looked the same.

From 6 - 8pm the power usage goes thru the roof with people getting all their cooking, electricity based stuff done before 8. So it's a transference of power usage. And with all the candle burning, trees, carbon, electricity used in advertising Earth Hour, the program seriously needs to be looked at.

Yeah, I guess most people turned the lights off on Friday night so it looked releatively unremarkable when the hour rolled around.
You'd think SMH would get a decent retoucher.

Earth Hour isn't only about saving electricity for the sake of the planet, it's a simple way to get people thinking about over-consumption in general.

totally agree, 12.04.
can't believe the general cynical nature of this blog carries over to great initiatives such as this.
