SNOOP DROPS IT LIKE IT’S HOT AT THE ASTRA AWARDS - WINS BEST SHORT FORM PROGRAM

Picture 53.pngThe 11-minute long ‘Welcome Snoop’ film from MTV Networks Australia, via Lowe Hunt Sydney, picked up Best Short Form Program in the Programming and Production category at the 6th Annual ASTRA Subscription Television Awards last night. The Astra Awards recognise outstanding ‘contributions that drive subscription platforms and channels’, making the win as a piece of television content a real accomplishment for the team behind the idea.
The film was one of many mediums used to bring to life the ‘Welcome Snoop’ idea, which evolved around a live petition to help Snoop Dogg gain Australian citizenship, and also covered events, web, DM, print and poster. The campaign created a storm of national and international media attention, generating valuable PR for the client, MTV Networks Australia.

One of the best campaigns we've seen for years - absolutely world class.

Interesting to see it only gets 5 comments. Clearly, no one really gives a shit about good ideas. This is just a convenient place to spit on people.

point taken.

work sensational. a major coup to get the dog.

It's true, we get lazy when it comes to compliments.

Anonymous said:

Hey extra top effort guys... one of the few ads that made me LMAO recently. When is the TV series coming out?

Anonymous said:

'THE GOVERNOR' needs to chill.

Anonymous said:

Actually the governor makes a good point. It is so easy to criticise work (not to mention people) on blogs that it has become the focal point so so often. I do believe when something is genuinely worth considering - like this, you will get people posting positive comments. I suppose it is rather more fun to have a go though. That's human nature isn't it.

Sexist, racist crap.

The drugs, guns and money culture this low life represents is a social caner.

Well done for focusing on something really meaningful as the basis for your work.

Caner or cancer, 4:37?

4:37

I gather you don't like HIP HOP.

4:37 - you obviously are not the target market are you? This is neither sexist nor racist - just a great creative idea that is spot on for the audience and very very funny. You need to work out your personal issues.

Anonymous said:

6:37

Why is our profession so despised by the wider community? (Read the stats).

Because we exercise no sense of social responsibility.

Merely claiming something was liked by the target audience is not a justification.

I've seen the black and white footage from the 1930s to know that.

Focusing on the most base of characters to sell product is contemptible.

Check 'dis, if you're interested.

Obviously it's very uncool to post a contrary comment on this string.

Perhaps one or more of you dogaphants could post a review of tonight's 50 Cent concert tomorrow.

There's a lotta love for the Dogg.

7:12 - I agree we are so far up our own butts in advertising. This piss take mockumentary has been done to death in the US on the comedy channels. It's neither original nor funny. The target market has already seen this stuff at least 2 years ago - BORING and yes sexist racist crap.

Anonymous said:

6:37pm ... C'mon ... the guy just says FUCK a few times for fuck's sake. What you've never sworn in your life? Give me a break. You're more conservative than my fucking sanitary pad client. At least they have wings. Sorry but 4:37 is right - this is not aimed at you.

Anonymous said:

Middleditch just gets better and better... Class.

Anonymous said:

The strategy behind it all is very clever. Few campaigns manage to get their audience rallying behind them the way this did. For that, well done.

Anonymous said:

6:37 is on acid. Go Snoop!

Anonymous said:

4:37 My little precious.................May I ask what you do exactly? Better still, why don't you tell us which commercials you've been involved in. I wonder if they reflect your values - I'd be very surprised if they were all socially responsible.

Well done Lowe on an excellent campaign.

Snoop should have been at the 2020 summit. He'd have a few suggestions.

My book and reel is a tour-de-force of wholesome ads that I and my family can be proud of.

I haven't embraced smut and scum like many in this industry.

Too many people under 40 with too many opportunities to offend.

Anonymous said:

12:58 ... sorry but I don't recall Kerri-Ann being arrested on drug and weapons charges?

Anonymous said:

3:08 are you a 12 year old girl?

Anonymous said:

I think 11:09 is the 12 year old girl.

Anonymous said:

11:09 - ooooh your book and reel sound so riveting.

Anonymous said:

11:18pm - I don't usually stick my neck out to defend anything on the blog, but I have to say it sounds like you really don't know what the this campaign is. It''s pretty bloody cool. The mockumentary is just one part of the execution, it's not the idea. The idea was to rally Australia around MTV to campaign for Snoop to get Australian citizenship, which they did for real. The petition actually caused a big debate...which the Immigration Minister and PM both got involved in. The mockumentary launched during the MIDDLE of the campaign and frankly, I nearly pissed my pants watching it. But brilliant as the mockumentary is...it's not the idea. I'm yet to have seen another idea centered on a petition to get a controversial music celeb Australian citizenship to promote the Australian branch of a major music channel. Original, fucking smart, and really well executed. It's kinda embarrassing you missed that.

Anonymous said:

6:56 the spot maybe kinda cool mainly production. But snoop is totally uncool! Snoop is maintstream LA music company manufactured shit. The whole campaign is totally fake and so not from the roots. People who are into the music just laugh at this shit. It's like Kelloggs sponsoring ice to us.

Anonymous said:

i saw this a while back and thought it was very strong. First truly different and original idea i've seen in a long time.

Anonymous said:

1:25 - Don't know about that. I was at good vibes last year when he perfomed and the crowd went nuts. Absolutely nuts. You sound like a 50 year old trying to act like they know "what's cool". In terms of his music being manufactured ... we'll you're wrong there too as most of his music is exclusively written by himself. Snoop has had hits from every single album he has produced - which incidentally includes 10 albums. What have you done lately?

Anonymous said:

Brilliant idea exceptionally executed by the master of comedy - Paul Middleditch. Congrats to all involved.

Anonymous said:

Hey great news guys! Well done. I'm sure it's the first of many. Great campaign.

a lot of good stuff from Oz got nothing at d&ad.

Anonymous said:

but ... made it In one show and clio's in multiple categories.

Anonymous said:

by far the best campaign to come out of australia the past year.

Anonymous said:

no big surprise it got nothing at D&AD - too many tits and too much ass for the anti-mutherfuckers over in the civilised UK. nothing like the Eastenders.

I don't think they were counting on D&AD for this mutherfucker of an idea!

Anonymous said:

Great idea with superb execution and massive newsworthyness (is that a word?)
