THE GRUEN TRANSFER ABC'S HIGHEST RATING ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM SINCE 1991

Picture 118.pngPicture 119.pngPicture 117.pngTHE GRUEN TRANSFER attracted over 1.287 million people nationally on Wednesday night, making it the highest-rating launch for an entertainment program on ABC1 since 1991, when people meter data was introduced, beating Kath & Kim’s (1.146) debut in May 2002.
Hosted by Wil Anderson and produced by Zapruder’s other films, THE GRUEN TRANSFER was watched by 421,000 (Sydney), 402,000 (Melbourne), 205,000 (Brisbane), 95,000 (Adelaide) and 164,000 (Perth).
The show won its timeslot, beating Ten’s House, Nine’s Cold Case and Seven’s Criminal Minds.
Says Wil Anderson: “I’m just glad people watched the ads and didn’t use them as an opportunity to go to the toilet or get a biscuit."

Wasn't all that bad, surprisingly.

Howcroft was good, in a management kind of way. (Bet he doesn't love every concept they show him at his agency like he did on the show - or maybe he does.)

Bloke in the pink shirt was terrific.

An interesting dynamic would be Nigel Marsh representing GPY&R. I hear there is steam between him and The Todd.

Speaking of rivalries, who'd make the best on air Springer Style bust up?

Tim Hall & Richard Grisdale?
Jay Furby & Garry Horner?
Tom Moult and Neil Lawrence?

Ms Madigan was the hottie though. I was transfixed, nay transformed. She makes me want to be a better man. One day I will posses a woman like her.

Mmmmmmm.... Dee!

Who is Dee?

Was Howcroft serious when he said that the Big Ad was like the Kennedy Assassination, because everyone in advertising remembers where they were when they first saw it?

It's a fucking ad!

(And not one that's all that special.)

And completely randomly, Doddsy, how are the sales of your brilliant novel 'Clyde's Tale' (which is available at a truly excellent price on Amazon.com) doing ?

Of course everyone remembers where they were when they first saw the Big Ad. They were sitting at their desk, staring at their computer screen, watching the Big Ad.

Any wonder it was a huge success??? I mean they ADVERTISED it on ABC, on commercial radio etc. I think the fact that it attracted so many people shows that this little thing we call advertising actually works.

So true 2:20... where the fuck else would we be?

Thought the show was worth the watch though.

7:43. Me and you, adwanker.

7:43, ignore that comment from that idiot 1:43. He's obviously a junior whose memory of fisticuffs goes back no further than the Mundine-Soliman fight last week or when someone recently whacked him for being a humourless little worm, whichever came first.

I, on the other hand remember Terry Comer v Adrian Pritchard and John Doorley v Andrew West at one particularly memorable AWARD night in the '80s. Or was it consecutive years? It's all a bit of a blurr these days.

But what's this of Furby v Gazza? More details PLEASE.

Everyone remembers what they were doing when they first heard of Doddsy's book. Reading the blog.

Well it wasnt bad but cant see what all the fuss is about. Will is as dull as a wet week in my book though.

Yep I'd much rather watch Big Brother or Idol.....

Why stick the show just in the studio? It all felt a bit like "The Panel" meets "Greatest Commercials". The blue heeler would have been a nice touch! Ads are the low hanging fruit for a show like this.
Hopefully they will get into some field work and show some environmental and point of sale stuff and actually show "The Gruen Transfer" in action.

Ah yes.....a show about point of sale. sounds scintillating.
