SEVEN GOLDS FOR AUSTRALIA AT NEW YORK FESTIVALS, LEO'S LEADS AGENCY PACK

EARTH-HOUR.jpgAustralia proved its place on the world advertising stage once again with 7 Golds, 6 Silver and 8 Bronze World medals at the New York Festivals 2008. The Awards Gala was held last night (Monday 30th June) and featured some great work, much of which has already been recognised at other shows.
Leo Burnett Sydney was the big winner, picking up 3 Golds for Earth Hour, 2 Silvers (for WWF and Bundaberg Rum), and 3 Bronzes (for MacDonald’s, Bundaberg Rum and WWF).
Clemenger BBDO Melbourne also picked up a Gold for Carlton Draught 'Skytroop', as did JWT Sydney for Thrifty, Fin Design & Effects for Toyota and Song Zu for Coco Cola. New Zealand scored no Gold, and only 1 Silver and 1 Bronze for Rapp Collins Perpetual Card and 1 Bronze for Curious Film’s AMI film.
Local judges this year included Steve Back, ECD of Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney and Mark Collis, the former ECD of Leo Burnett Sydney (now at Ogilvy Tokyo). For the full list of winners and finalists go to www.newyorkfestivals.com

Let's get a major case of deja vu and revisit whether this is worth awarding, who should get the credits etc etc yawn.

M&C must have gotten angry because their website post has gone.

Leo's wins big and the CD on the work is a judge!

I love this business.

Once again so many negative comments.

Didn't your mother ever tell you if you can't say anything nice don't say anything

On this blog some people win awards and they get critised for their work being scam ads.
Other people win awards and they get critised for entering their work into "2nd rate" competitions.
The New York Festivals has changed - the judges are of the same calibre (indeed often the same calibre) as other top awards shows.
So how about just being nice about the people that win.

Rebecca Carrasco was also a judge.

Is it just me me, or do other people think the whole 'Earth hour' idea was a light weight concept for a much deeper problem?

It feels a bit dumb. Like the creators don't really get it.

Wrong. Judges can't vote on their own work.

Well done guys.

Hey DDBOOM

you obviously work in the nursery. You need to be more original before you play with the adults. But keep going, they'll keep you on forever. For nothin'.

Good job fellas.

Regardless of all the jealous people on here who can't win shit, you should be proud. NYF is a respectable show and has been around just as long as Cannes. ( i think).

Lynchy, why don't you publish a list of which Australian agencies actually entered NYF. At least then we'll know who they were competing against. I know for a fact that the big multi national agency I work for didn't enter. Also, if it's such a credible award, why is it not counted in the CB rankings?

11.39pm, you've obviously never judged awards if you think not being able to vote for your own work means you can't influence the outcome.

They do all online judging, can't influence anyone actually.

12.28pm, you've obviously never judged awards if you think not being in the same room, building or country means you can't influence the outcome.

Well done Leo Burnett - a fine campaign.

However for Todd Sampson to stand up at a recent awards night and say that he was glad that the award season was finally over so he didn't have to stand up to collect awards anymore... I'm sure there are many other agencies and creatives wishing they had the same problem Todd - jeez life must be tough Mr Sampson.

6:55pm.

Very true.

I know we only enter a few shows, mostly the majors.

Cannes
D&AD
NYF
Clio
One Show

by the time July rolls around, I can't stand getting on planes anymore, that is if we put out good work that year.

Aren't you only as good as your competition?
Interesting to see who didn't enter these awards.
No

Fallon London
BBH London/NY
Mother London/NY
DDB London
Crispin
Wieden UK/USA
Goodby
Droga5 NY
TBWA USA
Santos ARG
Taxi Canada/NY
BBDO Brazil.

And on and on and on.

Yeah lynchy - why doesn't the new york festivals rank in the cb listings. i know the agency i work for won't enter because of that. And i know they've been going a heck of a long time...i think 50 years or so. And the judges are good. They used to have a rep for giving away too many awards - but doesn't seem like that now. What do they have to do to get a spot on your rankings?

5:35pm.

Not sure I can believe you.

I won an award alongside Goodby Silverstein last year!

Taxi Canada won a Silver this year.

Did you honestly take the time to research that? Are you out of a job right now?
