CREATIVE REVIEW: LATEST SPOTS

Picture 228.pngPicture 229.png
Picture 232.pngGeorge Patterson Y&R Melbourne has created an integrated campaign for Intralot, a new lottery company in Victoria. Intralot's company ethos is to make 'more winners, more often'. Their creative execution of that thought is the Luck Factory - a tangible place where luck is actually manufactured. View one of the commercials.....
and here are two product ads: product spot 1 and product spot 2

The latest Drinkwise commercial via Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne has attracted a lot of media attention over the last few weeks. The spot highlights the link between the drinking habits of parents and their children....

... and a commercial via The Works Sydney for 'Top Gear' that sends up the RTA 'Little Pinky' commercial.

Top gear is gold love it!!

Re: Top Gear ad
This is really irresponsible advertising. The clowns that are responsible for bringing this ad to our TV screens need to attend some speeding related accidents to see just how funny they really are.

Hey you, dude whose about to cry. Listen buddy, the pinky ad was confronting but didn't do jack shit. The top gear ad didn't offend anyone or anything. The original RTA was meant to be both confronting and funny. Same thing with the Top Gear ad. Now get back to work and come up with something good.

I hate the drinkwise campaign. I DONT GET IT.

The father is obviously having fun and the kid is getting him a beer. It's not a bad influence. No one is binge drinking, no one is getting drunk. And it's definitely a weak argument to say "You could become a binge drinker if you get your dad a beer".

Good luck being a waiter/waitress.

The Top Gear ad is from the guys that gave us 'Balls for Bagdad' on Gruen. Get your mind off your genitals and better yet your hand.

luck factory is not very good for lots of reasons. the whole 'mythical look-behind-the-scenes' idea has become a standby approach from gpy&r: boags draft, barry hall hall, luck factory... getting pretty old now.

drinkwise beautifully shot. the 'cyclical' idea might be a bit familiar, but this one is nicely done and makes a good point.

pinky is irresponsible and parody is a cheap way of getting laughs. don't like it.

Luck Factory ads are f***ing out there. Cool idea though.

Anonymous said:

The luck factory is a great idea but the execution is really flat, I didn't laugh once, not even a chortle.

Can't help but think how great it could have been if Goodby or someone had done it.
Maybe the rest of the campaign will be better.

Anonymous said:

'mythical look behind the scenes.' What does that even mean?

Anonymous said:

Loving the Luck Factory stuff. Saw two of the game ads over the weekend. Wow -even weirder than the brand spot. Wish I'd done them. Still, won't make me buy a scratchie though.

Really like the drinkwise spot. Nicely executed.

Not big on the Top Gear ad, but anything with a walking horseshoe gets my vote.

Anonymous said:

advertising in general is shit.

Anonymous said:

Nice one boys!

Anonymous said:

Check out the Luck factory follow up product ads, they have been on TV heaps this week.
Totally waked out, but I like them a lot.

The brand ad is really just an intro to the idea, but the 'majic box' one the good stuff.

Hello to all our Clems friends who like there own work & like to blog about it.

Drinkwise is really nicely executed and I like the message.

Spot on 9:57AM.

Fully agree! (Hence the words 'spot on.')

Once again, I ask the blog administrator to block DDBoom.

It's inane, self-indulgent and annoying and boring.

Surely, something that meets all of those criteria should be banished.

10:10 AMEN.

The world would be a better place if more ads were as funny as the Top Gear ad. Lets not take ourselves so seriously and have some fun at what we do. And from what I have heard the magazine is going great guns. Everyone happy.

Full credit to everyone who worked on the luck factory. It's a big idea for a lottery. When has an interesting idea ever been done in this country for a lottery?

MONTY!!!!!

Loving the Luck Factory - great sell and makes Tatts look shite and boring.

Anonymous said:

11:32, in a freaky co-incidence, I review several of these ads in my weekly column in Wednesday's on-line media section of The Australian.

That's tomorrow. Can you wait till then?

Monty.

Agree with 11.14. Intralot is bloody fresh & no one has ever done anything different in the lottery category...ever. Pionts for a smart stategy. TV ads are wierd, but good.

Hey 9:24

You don't understand the industry you work in buddy. Sure it’s a funny ad but it detracts from a very important social message. Any half decent creative could have hit that brief out of the park without going straight for the obvious. Now get back to work adwanker and remember to open your eyes to the real world occasionally – it’s certain to improve the quality of your work.

Nice one Chris & Simon! Great spots.

Those Luck Factory ads make me feel uncomfortable. I don't know any other way to describe it. Some of the cast are just straight weird. Whatever you think about them you can't deny, they're seriously original spots. Very different.

Luck factory rocks.

Hey 9:57 reckons Luck factory would've been better if someone like Goodbys had made it - yeah sure - just like they did an amazing job on Comm Bank - that really raised the bar didnt it?

Anonymous said:

Magic box magic box magic box

Anonymous said:

I was hoping somebody would raise that fairly obvious point, 3:42.

Why are so many Australian creatives so utterly sycophantic towards the groovy agencies like Goodby's D5 etc etc?

The people who work there have only got two arms, two legs and one head, like the rest of us. They go to the toilet. They're not gods.

Anonymous said:

Good point 3.54......sadly, most of the people who seem to live on this blog, take comfort in those agencies. After all, unlike them, they proven they can do good work.

Anonymous said:

Intralot ads are pretty cool. The rest are a bit whatever.

Anonymous said:

Magic box, magic box, magic box... He he he. Nice.

Anonymous said:

Luck Factory ads would work better if a 20khz tone was broadcast at the same time so that those punters who were not gambling and were watching the TV were forced out of the house with bleeding ears and into the safety of the the local newsagent....we have the technology....I believe...

intralot funny, australian directors not!

Middleditch (funny Kiwi)
Rothwell (funny Kiwi)
Hosking ( funny ?)
Freedman (funny pom)

Others (unfunny Australian directors)

No agency is perfect.

Goodby does produce the odd stinker such as CBA.

But to suggest they are not a brilliant agency with an enviable track record is rubbish.

Not every compliment directed at someone else should be construed as a threat to your ego.

Unless you're an insecure dick.

Hmmm...

liked the idea behind luck factory but fell flat on the tvc, didn't find it terribly funny.

LOVED top gear's pinky send-up.

agree with 9:28am, how is getting your dad a beer irresponsible?

Anonymous said:

I agree on the Luck Factory being promising but just weird instead of weird-funny.

Top gear is great. Be interesting to see if it translates to overseas judges who haven't seen the local RTA campaign.

And my take on the Drinking one. It's a tough govt brief. It shows the cycle of drinking (it's metaphorical more than anything) and if you literally showed the father/son/son's son being binge drinking bastards, the government dudes would have shut it down. So it's not as hard hitting as it could have been but far from bad, it does the job.

Anonymous said:

Luck Factory is easily the pick of that bunch. Funny and strange is a good combination.

Anonymous said:

Magic Box. Magic Box. Magic Box. Ha.

Anonymous said:

It took talent not luck to think of the Luck Factory.

Anonymous said:

to 8.27

DDB is perfection

Anonymous said:

Luck factory is cool, weird ads but a real strategy. It will have Tatts scratching theirs heads.

Scrolling through the blog. Hadn't seen those Luck Factory ads. Pretty awesome.
