Australia snares record 10 D&AD Nominations

Picture 28.pngAustralia has racked up 10 nominations for Yellow Pencils at the D&AD Awards 2009, over 3 times as many as last year and 23 in-book entries. New Zealand has also done well with 10 in-book and 2 nominations. A list of Nominated work can be downloaded HERE.  Download the Australia and NZ list:
D&AD-Aus_NZ.xls. In-Book work will be available tomorrow (30 April).

D&AD announced the interim results for the 2009 Awards today (Wednesday, 29 April), with a record breaking 165 nominated entries, including 10 from Australia.

Aussie Nominations include the Carlton Mid 'Woman Whisperer' via Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, TED696 Project from BMF Sydney, Schweppes 'Burst' via Exit Films, Melbourne, UN Voices Project from Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney, Sony 'Quantum of Solace' from Euro RSCG Sydney, and Sydney Dogs & Cats Home 'Throw us a bone' from M&C Saatchi, Sydney.

New Zealand has two Nominations: Warehouse 'The Great Love Conspiracy' via AIM Proximity Auckland and New Zealand Book Council 'Read a book at work' via Colenso BBDO Auckland.

Droga5, New York has a Nomination for New York Department of Education 'Million' and two for Jewish Council for Education 'The Great Schlep'

Of the 20,000 pieces of work judged, 717 entries have gone In-Book and will be included in the D&AD Annual as a record of the best work in advertising and design this year.  Yellow & Black Pencils will be announced at the D&AD Awards Ceremony & Dinner in London on 11 June. The Annual will be published in September.

Environmental Design and TV & Cinema Crafts lead the nominations, with 14 from each jury.
The Graphic Design Jury selected the most work to go In-Book, with 112 entries - 13 of which were nominated, followed by Poster Advertising with 75 entries - 11 of which were nominated.

"I felt a touch of apprehension before judging began, especially so in a 'recession year'.  Will the work be good enough? Have slashed budgets cut creativity to the bone?  The results so far show that's not the case," said D&AD President Garrick Hamm.  "D&AD is famous for it's tough standards, but this crop of nominations shows that the industry continues to produce great work.  Will that translate into a record-breaking number of Pencils at the ceremony?  That remains to be seen."

Black Pencil Judging will take place on 7 & 8 May in London. Three Black Pencil juries are made up of the Foreman and one other member of each original jury. Black Pencils are extremely rare and exist to award those pieces of truly groundbreaking work that redefine their medium. In some years no Black Pencils are awarded.

A list of Nominated work can be downloaded HERE.  In-Book work will be available tomorrow (30 April).  Product Design results will be published next Tuesday or Wednesday, as judging will take place this Friday (1 May).

Just a quickie, what was the James Bond campaign?

It's got nominated, but all I can find about it on Google is this:

Not being a wanker, just interested in seeing pencil-worthy work...

So by that result, the rest of the world will conclude that the best piece of television work to come out of Australia/NZ is Cartlon Mid 'Woman Whisperer'?

Oh dear God...

Who gives a fuck about Droga5 New York?
Seriously.
I mean, sure, if they had like 15 nominations or something you could probably justify mentioning them but they got one. One. Fuck - off.

Well done Rich and Ant. Two in the book, one nomination. That means personally, you're better than Droga5 New York.

9.15 you find a blog...wow. Where some nobody writes something about whatever he feels like. You're an embarrasment.
Well done to everyone who got nominated in the 'hardest' award show. Especially if you're not a pom.

I agree it may not be the best commercial I've seen this year Ben, but I love Woman Whisperer. Fresh & funny.

What happened, you didn't get anything in?

I wouldn't give a shit if the campaign was tattooed on someone's arse, I just want to see what it was.

Man, there's some pricks on here.

The pressure of not winning anything at D&AD each year must be awful. Still onwards to Cannes and AWARD for more bitter disappointed.

9:24am - I'm interested in reading about Droga 5 because they're an Aussie agency with an office in NYC that do good work like the idea that won a titanium at Cannes.

Relax.
