New AWARD Chairman Davis replaces Maddocks - will continue to progress creativity debate

CRAIG-DAVIS-2.jpgThe Communications Council, Australia's advertising peak industry body, today announced the appointment of Craig Davis (left) as the new chairman of AWARD following the resignation of outgoing chairman Richard Maddocks, who is departing soon from the ECD gig at Clemenger BBDO, Sydney to take a year out of the business to write his first novel, based in New Zealand.

Davis, co-chairman and chief creative officer of Publicis Mojo Australia/NZ, brings a wealth of experience as a leader in the global advertising industry and a passion for shifting the role of creativity in the industry.

Says Davis: "Creativity has never been more important or relevant to enterprise. As an industry we are fundamentally here to solve problems."
"Through harnessing the best creative thinking we can make a significant contribution to improving business performance and community engagement. Creativity doesn't belong on the fringe of society anymore - it is integral to progress, to prosperity and to success."

MADDOCKS-CAXTON.jpgSays outgoing chairman Richard Maddocks (left): "AWARD now plays a fundamental role in our industry's peak body, and to have an inspirational creative leader of Craig's calibre at the helm is extremely exciting."

Other appointments to the AWARD committee and national board include Grant Rutherford, executive creative director of DDB Melbourne in a move that expands AWARD's footprint throughout Australia.

Davis and Rutherford will be joining AWARD co-chairman Michael Ritchie and Darryn Devlin on the Communications Council Board effective 20 May 2010.

The next full AWARD committee elections will take place in February 2011.

Onya Richard.

Did you know that 99% of people think they've got a book in them. Only 1% ever write it?

Good to know you have the courage to follow your dream.

Hey 1:01

The “death of AWARD”? That’s unthinkable. Who else could we rely on to teach kids how to create craft-less scam ads for the local snack bar they’ll end up working in?

Hey 1.24pm, did you know 99% of statistics are bullshit? But only the stupid 1% believe them.

AWARD: Let's spark this award show up with something new and fresh
SOLUTION: Let's hire the same ole people and expect different results.

Give it a few years and Craig will be standing for parliament or some steering committee or anything that he feels lends an air of respectability to this trashy, fun business. The bloke's just got ideas well above his station. It's only advertising, Craig.
