Sorbent donates $150K to Daffodil Day after 42,475 people sing ‘Walking on Sunshine’

Picture 7.pngSorbent pledged that if 50,000 people sung the Katrina and the Waves classic, ‘Walkingon Sunshine’ by the end of August, it would increase itsdonation to the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day from $135,000 to $150,000. Despite just fallingshort of its target, achieving 42,475 singers, Sorbent will honour itschallenge and increase its donation to $150K.

Sorbent were also supported by The Circle and MCM radio, who donated an additional $20K and $5K respectively to the cause, as well as Essendon Football Club who donated $3.4K. A successful can andcoin collection campaign rose just over $5,500, bringing total funds raised bythe Sorbent Sing for Daffodil campaign to over $180,000. 

“We are delighted withthe results of this campaign and are proud of our association with CancerCouncil, assisting them in funding vital cancer research, prevention and supportservices,” said Drew Lette, Sorbent Marketing Manager, SCA Hygiene Australia. 

Singers showed off their vocal chords online at www.sorbent.net/daffodilday and in person with chorus scouts setting up at shoppingcentres in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, in search for vocalDaffodil Day supporters. 

AFL team Essendon threw its weight behind thecampaign, encouraging fans at the Etihad Stadium Essendon v Brisbane clash on22 August to participate in a mass quarter time sing-along, led by Jono andDano of the Jono and Dano radio show, as well as taking part in fundraisingactivities. Videos are a still available to view on the website and acompilation of videos have been made into a special tribute TV commercial,scheduled to air Tuesday, 7 September during Packed to the Rafters. 

Thecompilation will also be available to view on the Sorbent Sing for Daffodil Daywebsite. “Sorbent Sing for Daffodil Day has been an opportunity for Australians to show their support for an incredibly worthycause and spread the message of hope represented by Daffodil Day. We arethankful to all those who participated and our media and corporate partners,” Lette said. 

Sorbent is proud of its four year association with CancerCouncils Daffodil Day,contributing a total of over $580,000 since 2006. In addition to the national SorbentSing for Daffodil Day campaign, Sorbent also released its annual range oflimited edition Daffodil Day products featuring the daffodil – theinternational symbol of hope to those affected by cancer – to assist its 2010Daffodil Day fundraising and awareness efforts.
