D&AD: Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne nominated for Slow Mo; Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney nominated for Toyota ‘Border Security – Nothing soft gets in’ – Christopher Doyle gets two design nominations
UPDATED: After a week of deliberation and the odd row, a week where the competition was as fierce as the debate, the juries have awarded 680 entries In Book or Nominated status in the D&AD Awards 2011.
And in the Student Awards 217 students from around the world have taken their first steps towards creative fame, achieving In Book or above status.
Australia has scored four nominations and 22 in-book. Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne has one Nomination for Carlton Draught ‘Slow Mo‘; Saatchi & Saatchi, Sydney has one Nomination for Toyota ‘Border Security – Nothing Soft Gets In’ while Christopher Doyle has two nominations – both for Elliott Scott & Christopher Doyle ‘This Year I will try not to’ – in the Catalogue & Brochures category and in the Writing for Design category.
In contrast, New Zealand has had a disappointing year, with only five selected in-book. Colenso BBDO has three and Saatchi & Saatchi and DDB New Zealand had one apiece. Nominated work can go on to win a Yellow Pencil or Black Pencil, which will be announced at the D&AD Awards in London on June 16.
You can view this year’s In Book winners and Nominations at: dandad.org. This year D&AD has also published the shortlists. That’s the work that survived the first couple of judging rounds, but was not quite awarded. D&AD has also published interviews with many of the judges on the Learning section of the site. Have a look at these to gain an insight into the judging process.
Pencil winners will be announced on Thursday 16 June at the D&AD Awards Night in London. CLICK HERE to find out more or to be part of the celebration visit.

Congrats all. D&AD is a hard nut to crack! Big congrats to S&S. As much you all try you can’t keep this mob down. Shame the people who created the campaigns are no longer there.
Well done Vinnie & Jacko! I hope you bring home another pencil!!

Oh, and well done Chris Doyle. You’re getting good at this mate 🙂
Is it possible to see the cut that was entered?
I believe Whybins got up too for NRMA.
I think I saw Adelaide’s Mash Design in the Magazine and Newspaper category too.
The continued creative success of Happy Soldiers makes the situation even more confusing. It obviously not all about the work then.
So it’s official: the Carlton slo mo ad is better than the VB slo mo ad.
I HATE slo mo ad. HATE it. This is just an opportunity to vent that again.
Missed a few. Ogilvy NZ nominated for tv too.
Sorry, Ogilvy NZ was shortlisted.
Slow mo was panned by the Oz trade press when it came out. But the D&AD jury like it. And I suspect the Cannes jury will too.
Who cares 6:42?
99.9% of the D&AD and Cannes juries don’t like Vegemite either.
Congratulations to Chris Doyle. Legend bloke, funny as fuck and an awesome designer to boot.
