The founders of two award-winning agencies, Justin Drape from The Monkeys (formerly Three Drunk Monkeys) and Simone Drewry from Mango, will talk about how they come up with their big ideas, and how the creative thinking process unfolds within their team.

Justin Drape

Co-founder / executive creative director – The Monkeys (formerly Three Drunk Monkeys)

Three Drunk Monkeys was recently named 2010 B&T Advertising Agency of the Year, Australian Creative Advertising Hotshop of the Year and ranked No.1 Agency in Australia by AdNews magazine.

Drape’s advertising campaigns have been awarded at Cannes, CLIO, AWARD, British Television Advertising Awards, and accepted into D&AD. He’s also been a judge at Cannes, AWARD, NZ AXIS and Chairman of Judges at Caxton Awards and PADC, and has directed commercials for leading international brands including Mountain Dew, Pepsi Max, Lynx and FOX SPORTS.

Before The Monkeys, Drape created a number of award-winning campaigns at Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney, helping them to be named agency of the year three years in a row. He has worked on clients including Lion Nathan (Tooheys New, Becks), Midori, David Jones, Honda, Toyota, ChryslerJeep, Lexus, NRMA, Westpac, FOX SPORTS, and Nova amongst many others.

After leaving Saatchis, Drape and creative partner Scott Nowell, co-wrote and directed Losing Face, an award winning short film that premiered at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and later aired on The Comedy Channel, and his second short film, Being Boston, was a 2007 Sony Tropfest finalist. Drape’s book, I Can do Anything (Written for client, Kids for Life) has been accepted into the National Library of Australia and is currently on sale in leading bookstores around the country.

Drape was an executive producer and writer on the hit SBS TV show, My Family Feast, and co-creator and writer of the critically acclaimed TV comedy-drama series, :30 seconds, both of which were nominated for Logies and Australian Film Institute Awards.

He gets inspired by the talented people he’s had the privilege to work with and still can’t believe he’s lucky enough to be actually doing this for a living.

Simone Drewry

Managing director – Mango Sydney

Simone Drewry, managing director of Mango Sydney has an international career spanning 15 years in PR and experiential across the UK, USA and Australia.

An expert in brand strategy and consumer engagement, Drewry has worked with major global consumer brands including Volkswagen, Telstra, McDonald’s, Virgin, Diageo, Emirates, Hilton, MasterCard, Coca-Cola and Unilever.

 

Joining Mango in early 2008, she became the youngest female board member for DDB Group Australia and in this role she has been instrumental in re-engineering processes and rolling out a change management program that encourages integrated thinking.

 

As a part of pioneering integrated agency thinking, Drewry has been instrumental in establishing a social media and brand communication unit within the DDB Group. Developing cross discipline teams with expertise in strategic planning, PR, experiential and digital, delivering cutting edge social media engagement campaigns most recently for Telstra, Australia’s largest Telco network.

 

This thinking is why Mango has been recognised as a pioneer in the new age of PR, winning AdNews PR agency of the year and B&T PR agency of the year 2010.

Arriving in Australia in 2001 Simone joined Horizon Communications with the remit of developing the consumer PR offering.

 

During the next four years this revenue stream grew significantly and included programs for Coca Cola, Gloria Jean’s, Hilton, 42 Below Vodka and Commonwealth Bank.

Simone went on to run the sponsorship and lifestyle team for WWP agency PPR. Here she planned strategic sponsorship programs for Diageo, MasterCard and Emirates.

 

In 2007 the bright lights of Hollywood lured Drewry to LA where she worked as the 2ic for Zing USA promoting Australian brands in the US market. This also gave her the opportunity to get ahead of the curve in the social media and branded content space, working with the producers of Unilever’s webisode series ‘In the Motherhood’ and 24 spin off ‘The Rookie for Degree’.

 

Drewry’s international experience has helped her in the role of awards judge for the 2010 Cannes Golden Lions awards, the 2011 Clio awards and Australia’s B&T awards.

 

Drewry is also non-executive director of LA based social information film production company Positive Pictures Group, and works in a pro bono capacity for homeless charity The Wayside Chapel and Vipassna Australia, a non denominational not-for-profit educating children and adults on the benefits of meditation.
