Comedy specialist Bruce Hurwit has joined trans-Tasman production company, Film Construction.
Hurwit started his career in NYC as an art director and then creative director at ad agencies BBDO, Cliff Freeman & Partners and Saatchi & Saatchi, where his award winning work for Little Caesars catapulted him into the inner circle of directors producing dialogue-based situational comedy.
Hurwit's Little Caesarʼs
spot, "Focus Group" was named one of the 10 best spots of the past 20
years by Creativity magazine. His other industry awards include numerous
Cannes Lions, Clios, AICP awards, as well as many others worldwide.
Says Hurwit: "Having worked on the agency side in NY for many years before moving on to
directing, I know the importance of working as a team to continually
push an idea and develop it to be as unique and funny as possible, every
step of the production. It is a thrill to be joining Film Construction
not only for the top notch production team, but also to be a part of a
strong comedy roster".
Hurwit has also worked in films and TV. His pilot, "Split the
Difference," a sitcom about the forces of mediocrity and desperation in
advertising, won the NYTV Festival and has been picked up by NBC in New
York. A year later, he co-wrote, produced and directed "The Average
American" about a high school history teacher who wins a questionable
game show to be a candidate for the American presidency. He is now
working on several branded entertainment TV productions created for
commercial clients.
Says Film Constructionʼs Tom Gibson: "We're
delighted to have Bruce on board. He brings a wealth of talent and
experience to the company, which only strengthens our position as a
major hub for comedy in Australasia."
