CB Poll: Do you prefer the AWARD Awards theatre format or should it be a sit down dinner?
April 9 2012, 12:36 pm | | 7 Comments
With around 800 at the glittering AWARD Awards on Thursday night, it’s timely to revisit a far more important debate than whether too many Gold Pencils were handed out. Rather, should AWARD stick with the current theatre format or should it go back to a sit down dinner, which was the norm for most of the first 30 years of AWARD? You can vote on your computer, iPad or any smart phone.

Dinner style for sure – with less categories. Some new ones popped up this year that made it a little excruciating……not sure of the name, I think it was:
‘Best new product viral launch in digital retail experimental packaging campaign’
Best use of existing music? Is Award serious?
I prefer a sit down dinner… at home.
bring back food fights.
Here’s some comments made by people on the Poll’s Comments thread, which has attracted 176 votes so far, with 68% in favour of a sit down affair:
Yeah, more fun with round tables and lots of grog
hungry and thirsty by 9pm!!!
It’s faster and better
People are just to rude if you give them a table. They speak with each other through the ceremony. It’s best to get the ceremony done, then let people socialise and talk.
Dinner will add a lot to the cost, people get pissed and rowdy. Better to do awards then mingle after with booze and finger food. I think it’s a really well run show.
ridiculous you cant watch the awards with a drink in hand.
Whatever happens, people need drinks in their hand from start to finish.
It’s an Awards night. Give it some style instead of making it like drive-thru.
Could be either. Theatre is OK but does not have same feel as Cannes.
no body pays attention if you have a dinner
No one really cares. As long and there are drinks. Expecting us to go dry is insanity.
Dinner style – less categories – less gold
Very leading question: Do you want to be like the Academy Awards or Logies?
Academy Awards vs Logies says it all
I don’t mind sit down. But way prefer how it was at the Passenger Terminal. At least there you could watch and have a drink. For the past two years you can’t get a drink during the ceremony. It is hot in the venue and it drags. I wasn’t even allowed to take a water inside.
Perfect as it is 🙂
It’s fine as is as long as they introduce drinks. Even if it was grab a full vessel on the way in. Doesn’t have to be an endless supply throughout. Just something.
Was very boring in that theatre
No booze or food until 9pm? It was really boring. We should also only showcase Gold, keep it quick.
Award is currently the worse format award ceremony I’ve been anywhere in the world — and at $300 a ticket!
This year worked very well. Highly professional. Dinners turn into a talkfest. A short theatre style is best
No doubt about it.
Might justify the price of the ticket
I’m still trying to work out why people were paid to sit in a cage under the bar in their underwear and drink. How much did this stroke of brilliance add to the cost of the ticket? It wasn’t clever, it wasn’t special, it was stupid. There, I’ve said it IT WAS STUPID!
Dinner and tables for sure. It’s much more fun and it give those who don’t win awards something to do other than clap.
Also, I took one of my clients along and, although Micallef is indeed funny, his barrage of gags about picking up the bronze pencils from a basket at the front door, did nothing to assist my argument to my client that AWARD (and other creative awards) should be taken seriously.
