SBS2.jpgSBS Sales in collaboration with Inspired Adventures and Australia for UNHCR has launched an inspiring adventure for media agencies with the inaugural ‘SBS Ride for Refugees.’

The program will see three media agency teams, this year from Mindshare, OMD and Mediacom, raise funds for Australia for UNHCR as they cycle from Cambodia to Vietnam in November.

Tying in with SBS’s ‘7 Billion Stories and counting…’ brand positioning, the annual program will involve the media agency teams cycling more than 400km over 10 days from Siem Reap, home to the temples of Angkor, through the rice paddies and swaying sugar palms of southern Cambodia and on to Vietnam’s Mekong Delta. The program will raise more than $60,000 for Australia for UNHCR as well as incorporating experiences that tie into SBS’s key content verticals of food, football, cycling and adventure.

National Sales Manager, Adam Sadler said: “The purpose of this program is to provide a unique experience for agencies while also raising funds for a worthwhile cause.

“Supporting Australia for UNHCR was the natural choice for us as it ties in with the United Nations campaign ‘7 Billion Actions’ of which SBS is a partner of and of course is relevant to SBS’ tagline ‘7 Billion Stories and counting . . .’ We are so proud to be offering such a worthy initiative to media agencies.”

During November, teams of four or more from Mindshare, OMD and Mediacom will take on the challenge with each individual having fundraised more than $3,000 plus travel expenses throughout the year.

The adventure will include a soccer match at a local school in rural Cambodia, a briefing to learn about the work of UNHCR in South East Asia and the opportunity to dine at not-for-profit restaurants that provide hospitality training for the underprivileged.

Australia for UNHCR is an Australian charity whose mission is to engage Australians in raising funds for the UN Refugee Agency’s international humanitarian programs for refugees. These funds provide life-saving and life-changing support to those made homeless through conflict, persecution and natural disasters by providing emergency assistance. Funds raised from the Ride for Refugees program will support the vital work of the UNCHR’s Emergency Response Program.

SBS looks forward to including other agencies in the program in coming years.
