Aussie expat James Procter takes executive creative director role at TBWA\Hong Kong

James Procter.jpgFormer Ogilvy Singapore ECD James Procter is to move to Hong Kong to join TBWA in the same position. He replaces Mark Ringer, who's resignation to move to London was announced a two weeks ago.

Procter started his career at Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne and went on to become ECD at GPY&R Sydney, Y&R Singapore and for the past 12 months at O&M Singapore.

Commenting on the appointment, Joanne Lao, managing director TBWA\Hong Kong, described Procter's role as key in propelling the agency forward, building on its strong foundation of true integration with digital embedded at the core. "Our ambition is to be a top creative company, not just in Hong Kong, but across the region. We're thrilled to have James join us in enhancing our creative capabilities."
Says Ed Choe, co-president and head of creative for Greater China: "TBWA\ Hong Kong is a young and dynamic office with a culture that thrives off innovation. We are excited to welcome James and look forward to leveraging his creative talent and energy in both Hong Kong, and Greater China."

"TBWA has an amazing reputation for creative culture. Joanne, Ed and all the people I've met so far reinforce that," said Procter. "We are in the midst of one of the most exciting times for both the region and our industry. I can't wait to get started and to help our clients do the kind of work that people love."

Procter has worked with brands such as AXA, adidas, Caltex, Virgin Atlantic, Pepsi, OCBC, Mars, Starburst and WWF. His work has won recognition at many international and local award shows including D&AD, Cannes Lions, The Clio Awards, Spikes Asia, One Show, The Effies and New York Festivals to name a few.

Some people are amazing at advancing their careers. James is one of them. I don't mean this to be any sort of criticism but he is brilliant at playing the political game within agencies. For anyone who wants to become a CD, that is a very important skill to have. I have seen far better creatives and smarter CDs struggle to get anywhere near the traction within the industry that he has. I reckon it's a personality trait that you are either born with or you're not. He was. I wasn't. He'll eventually return to OZ with all this Asian experience on his CV and an agency or network will lap it up.

Hey Don,
Are these the same reasons why he has tore through 3 agencies in 4 years?
With no testimonials from the MDs?

Let's see if he departs for the third consecutive time from TBWA.
As an ex-Saatchian, am absolutely stunned about their choice of talent.
But then again, they hired Miller.
