The Australian marketing writer Simon Canning resigns to pursue new career outside journalism

Screen shot 2012-09-07 at 11.18.55 AM.jpgSimon Canning, the marketing and advertising writer at The Australian, has resigned to pursue a career in another field.

His resignation comes hot on the heels of other moves by members of the trade press, namely B&T Editor Tim Addington, who takes up the communications director role at The Works in a few weeks, Australian Creative editor Sonia Caeiro, who joined Droga5 as communications director in late July, and Julian Lee, marketing writer at the SMH, who was retrenched late last month.
Canning told CB: "I have decided to leave The Australian after nine years and am stepping away from journalism. Been doing this newspaper caper for 30 years, 17 covering the marketing, advertising and media space. It's been great fun and I have met and enjoyed the company of some of the most creative and inspiring people, but change is as good as a holiday and I think its time for me to make one. Not sure where I will end up, but it won't be in journalism.

But Lynchy, seriously, eight comments before a troll emerged. Very disappointing. Not like the good old days.
