Google Australia launches moustache-powered games for Movember via Mark Sydney and MAKE

Movember_Games_1.jpgM&C Saatchi's digital agency Mark Sydney and its digital production arm, MAKE together with Google Australia have launched a series of moustache-powered games in conjunction with Movember.

'Movember Games' is a Google Chrome web app that keeps participants motivated during the month of Movember by using the latest browser technology in a fun and innovative way.

Movember_Games_2.jpgThe app features four face-tracking games set to roll out each week of Movember. All anyone needs to play is Google Chrome, a web camera, and a face.

Week 1, the Lame Mo, invites beginner moustache wearers to strengthen their mo by lifting a barbell using only their top lip.Movember_Games_3.jpg

Says Hamish Stewart, Mark creative director: "The project has been a showcase for the kind of digital collaboration we're nurturing in the agency. It's been a labour of love for the entire team, while being a delightful way to raise awareness for Movember and Google Chrome. I Movember_Games_4.jpghope people have as much fun playing the games as we did making them."

Says James Bush, MAKE creative technologist: "Audio/video capture has been seen as the holy grail of web development for a long time. For many years we've had to rely on browser plugins to get the job done. With the introduction of HTML5 we can now use JavaScript to access a device's web camera, which makes it possible to use facial recognition for the game controls."

The campaign is supported by online and outdoor, and a 30-second TVC.

The team at Mark are also participating in Movember, demonstrating their support by giving the Mark logo a 'tache makeover.
