SBS image 2.jpgSBS, together with several media agencies (Mediacom, Mindshare, OMD and PHD) has raised over $50,000 for charity, Australia for UNHCR, by taking a group of 16 riders on a 400 kilometre cycle of Cambodia and Vietnam.

Departing on November 2, the team commenced its ride in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and are cycling over eight days to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam where the ride finishes on Saturday 10 November. Stay up to date with the riders’ adventure and photos on the Inspired Adventures blog.

The funds raised will go to Australia for UNHCR’s Emergency Response program, which provides life saving essentials such as food, water, shelter and healthcare to people in need during times of crisis. The program is currently assisting refugees in need in Syria, East Africa, South Sudan, Kenya and the Sahel.

Says dam Sadler, SBS national agency sales manager: “It’s great to be working with our clients to raise funds for such an important cause. Australia for UNHCR is one of our foundation charities committed to raising funds that help the world’s refugees.

“We selected the challenging ride to expand the minds of the riders and reflect what SBS stands for. The trip itinerary represents the diversity of SBS by incorporating cycling, adventure, food and confronting world issues.”

Each rider was required to individually fundraise a minimum of $3,100 to qualify for participation.

Australia for UNHCR’s national director, Naomi Steer, said fundraising initiatives, like the SBS Race for Refugees, are a great way to connect the Australian community with UNHCR’s work supporting refugees.

Says Steer: “UNHCR is facing an unprecedented number of crises globally – Mali, Syria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan. When a crisis strikes, UNHCR’s emergency teams are on the ground within 72 hours, supporting refugees and delivering life-saving essentials like food, water, shelter and healthcare.

“I wish the riders all the best for this great initiative supporting refugees.”

SBS partnered with Inspired Adventures and invited each agency involved to enter a team in March.
