Bulmers sets up shop at Laneway and launches new campaign via Clemenger BBDO Melbourne
This week Bulmers via Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, has launched a brand new print and outdoor campaign featuring candid snap shots of the streets of modern Britain. The artistic black and white street shots will be featured on a series of billboards, online and in print ads nationally.
The images were shot in East London by famed photographer Ollie Grove. Having shot campaigns for other iconic brands including Dr Martens and musician Plan B, Grove captured the candid street shots with talent sourced through street casting who wore their own clothes for the shoot.
Says Clive Coleman, general manager for Cider at Carlton and United Breweries: “The new campaign nails that street smart British attitude. Bulmers is all about celebrating doing your own thing and we wanted to capture this.”
Bulmers is also the official cider of Laneway Festival and will be setting up an awesome ‘Brick Lane’ style bar that brings to life the new campaign at Laneway in Sydney and Melbourne. Kitted out with a record store and a badge factory the bar will hit Sydney this Saturday, 2 February and Melbourne this Sunday, 3 February.
Vinyl Moments, the Bulmers record store, will have a stack of records to listen to on the day, 365 to be exact, one for every day of the year. Music lovers will be able to pick up the vinyl that matches their birthday and listen to the beats while enjoying a Bulmers over ice.
The Badge Factory will be spitting out Bulmers badges at the store all day long, and if making a personalised badge is on the agenda then paper, magazines, textas and glitter will all be available to make that happen. The ‘Brick Lane’ bar was created by District Agency Melbourne.
Says Coleman: “This is our third year as the official cider of Laneway, we really wanted to capture the new campaign and the ‘Brick Lane’ bar at Laneway really brings that to life.”
Bulmers Original, Bulmers Pear, Bulmers Blackcurrant and the new Bulmers Ginger are all available in 500ml bottles from your favourite pub or bar and bottle shops nationally.

An Indian restaurant that sells 2-3 types of beer and has an annoying prick squaking how it’s “the best on Brick Lane” out the front?
I reckon they look simple and elegant.

Must have been written by an English person. I know plenty of Aussies who drink Bulmers blissfully unaware of its Pommy heritage. Pointing it out to them will drive them to Strongbow or Monteiths quicker than I managed to type this rant.
Bulmer’s Birthday Project – sounds familiar fellas.
I was born in Britain.
And I feel the shots could have somewhat more realistic.
1. A moody black and white shot of a young woman dressed as a nurse projectile vomiting on the pavement whilst onlookers laugh.
2. An angry, bloodied man being held back by friends.
3. A sea of kebab wrappers on the pavement partially covering the boots of an unconscious teenager.
There ya go.

The talent are boring but I do love the term ‘…artistic black and white’ – that’s hysterical!
Funny thing is…
Magners is called Bulmers in Ireland, but Magners everywhere else because… well because some British company clones it and called it Bulmers, buying up all the trademarks. Bulmers (everywhere outside of Ireland) is a blatant rip off, they even try to copy the bottle designs.
Unless they recently moved Tipperary, or even the whole of Munster to the North pointy bit of Ireland, ‘Born British’ is pretty false advertising.
And these are facts most people know.
HP Bulmer was established in 1887 in England, whilst Magners started out in Ireland a wee bit later in 1935. That says to me that your “cloning” and “false advertising” claims might be a bit wide of the mark. And these are facts that are true!
