UBank set to utilise NFC technology to connect with Melbourne Midsumma festival-goers' social networks with competition via Tiger Pistol
Over 20,000 festival-goers will be handed a unique UBank wristband which features NFC (near field communication) technology. Each wristband bearer will be challenged to 'collect' seven colours of the rainbow by locating members of the UBank team amongst the crowds who each have an iPad that represents a different colour.
Participants will be asked a question to win various prizes and they
will have the chance to win a final pot of gold worth $5000 at the end
of the day. A fact from UBank's "People Like U" website will be shared
on their Facebook wall.
PeopleLikeU is an innovative new tool which looks at spending trends to show the spending habits between 'people like you' and the rest of Australia. UBank has crunched the numbers (over a billion), looking at area, gender, age, income, and living factors, to come up with some useful trends and insights. For example, fact: people in Melbourne spend 10% more on fashion than people in Sydney - but 20% less on the arts?
Midsumma, Melbourne's annual Queer Celebration, is a federation of arts and cultural events spread over 85 different venues throughout Melbourne and Regional Victoria. The festival is presented over three weeks from mid-January to February and brings a diverse mix of artists and performers together under a single umbrella for an impassioned celebration and innovative presentation of queer arts and culture. The festival program is made up of a wide range of events and activities including visual art, theatre, spoken word, cabaret, film, live music, parties, sport, social events and public forums.

Go Troy!
..for calling the agency Tiger Pistol
...it will be interesting to see how 'People like U' gets received at a gay and lesbian event.
I thought the Grindr app already did this in a big crowd?
...do ipads support NFC?
Apple don't support NFC in any current products... which means the iPads are just expensive colour swatches according to this article...
The NFC reader connects to the iPads via bluetooth.
