Destination NSW today announced that The Benevolent Society’s installation Hundreds and Thousands, would feature in the annual festival of lights, music and ideas, to be held from 24 May to 10 June.

Anne Hollonds, CEO of The Benevolent Society was taking part in Vivid as part of its 200th anniversary celebrations in May.

Says Hollonds: “The Benevolent Society is Australia’s first charity. We were founded right here in Sydney in May 1813, and 200 years on we’re thrilled to be taking part in this city’s iconic Vivid Festival.

“Vivid is so much more than a light installation, it’s a wonderful platform to engage with Australians of all walks of life and share a little bit of our history, what we stand for today and our vision for the future. Our light installation will be exciting and thought-provoking, and will inspire people to share their hopes for change for Australia’s future.

“We’re delighted the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW has supported our installation and I’d like to thank Designworks for their inspired creativity and generosity in bringing this idea to life. We can’t wait to unveil it in May.”

Hundreds and Thousands was developed as a joint venture and collaboration with creative agency Designworks, which is executing a far-reaching strategy to revitalise The Benevolent Society’s brand identity and give it a renewed vision and clear expression.

Says Mark Kennedy, managing director, Designworks Sydney said: “We are thrilled to develop an idea that brings The Benevolent Society brand and positioning to life. Vivid offers us the opportunity to visually demonstrate what the organisation and its brand expression stand for.”

Kennedy said the installation was one part of a much larger brand program developed by Designworks, and formed part of a social media engagement with the community to bring them closer to The Benevolent Society and their activities.

Says Kennedy: “Hundreds and Thousands is the first major project as part of The Benevolent Society’s revitalised brand identity and we look forward to unveiling the installation at the Vivid Festival in May. It’s a brilliant way to engage the public in building stronger more connected communities.”
