Clemenger BBDO Sydney has appointed two new creative directors, Ian Broekhuizen (near left) and Malcolm Caldwell (far left), adding to an already strong creative team.

Originally from South Africa, Broekhuizen spent the first seven years of his career working at Ogilvy Johannesburg during which time the agency became the most awarded in the country.

Caldwell has over 15 years experience, beginning his career in the U.K. at agencies including Saatchi&Saatchi and Leo Burnett before spending four years as creative director of London’s leading independent agency, Inferno.

Just over two years ago, Broekhuizen and Caldwell teamed up at DDB in Sydney where the pair have won awards including D&AD, Cannes, One Show, Clio and Award for campaigns including Volkswagen and Wrigley’s Eclipse Mints.

Joining Publicis Mojo in 2012, they have spent the last year on various projects including repositioning and steering Lion Nathan’s James Boag’s Premium account.

Says Paul Nagy, executive creative director of Clemenger BBDO Sydney: “Ian and Malcolm are proven creative all-rounders with broad awards success and will help to build on the international standard we’re setting here. In the last 12 months we’ve won gold at Cannes, the Spikes, the Asian Digital Festival and Adfest, plus a Grande Lotus at Adfest, so they’re arriving at a terrific time. They’re humble guys, who make genuinely interesting, effective work, and will be great additions to what I believe is one of the most exciting creative departments in Sydney.”

Broekhuizen and Caldwell said it is an exciting time to join Clemenger, which works with some of Australia’s most iconic brands and is fast becoming a standout agency in Sydney.

Says Caldwell: “Coming to Clemenger at such an exciting time was too good an opportunity to turn down – working with Paul and an exceptionally talented group of people on some of the country’s best brands with the chance to produce award winning work. It’s exactly why we got into the business in the first place.”
