Tradies limber up in new footy-inspired quiz and campaign from WorkSafe VIC via Carter Digital

TTC.jpgWorkSafe Victoria has launched a new digital quiz campaign that aims to reduce the high number of injuries on construction sites across Victoria via UX digital agency Carter Digital in partnership with cross-media PR agency Keep Left.

Launched this week, the Top Tradie Cup takes inspiration from a competitive environment tradies are familiar with, Aussie Rules football.

The quiz follows a six-week competition that tests tradies on their football and safety knowledge. It is designed specifically for smartphones to make it easy for tradies to compete and discuss safety on site.

There are weekly prizes, including footy tickets, Xboxes and vouchers, and a grand prize that includes corporate hospitality tickets to one of the biggest footy games of the season.

The digital platform is supported by comprehensive media, social media and stakeholder engagement.

WorkSafe chief executive Denise Cosgrove said ten tradies are injured badly enough every day to make a compensation claim and over the past five years more than 17,000 reported injury claims have cost the economy almost $1 billion in treatment, wages and other expenses.

Says Cosgrove: “Tradies are typically a hard audience to reach, however targeting them via their smartphones and getting them talking about safety and football is a tactic we hope will help create a culture of safety on site.

“The Top Tradie Cup is definitely fun but it does have a serious purpose. We know that creating a safety culture encourages behaviour change which will ultimately lead to fewer workers being injured.”

To be eligible for prizes, entrants must have a construction induction card (or equivalent) and work in construction in Victoria.

Keep Left worked on the campaign in 2012 and has re-launched the quiz in a bigger and better format for 2013.
