The_Rocket_1.jpgCurious Film is proud to announce its latest film The Rocket has won ‘Best Narrative Feature’ and the ‘Best Actor Award’ along with claiming the popular accolade ‘Audience Award’ at this year’s TriBeca Film Festival, held recently in New York.

The film’s young lead, 10-year-old Sitthiphon Disamoe was recognised with a Best Actor Award for his outstanding performance and the film’s overall success at TriBeca follows in the footsteps of last year’s award-winning film; the Oscar-nominated War Witch, which Curious Distribution released in March 2013.

Written and directed by Kim Mordaunt, The Rocket recently won three awards at the Berlin International Film Festival – Crystal Bear for Best Feature (Generation Kplus program), Best First Feature (across all sections of the festival) and the Amnesty International Film Prize, also judged from all sections of the Festival.

Filmed on location in Laos in the Lao language, it tells the story of a Lao boy who leads his family and a couple of ragged misfits across war-ravaged Laos to the dangerous Rocket Festival, in an attempt to prove he doesn’t carry a bad luck curse.

Says Peter Grasse, Curious Film executive producer: “We are extremely proud of this film! The World Narrative Competition is one of the most competitive sections of the film festival and is a fantastic way to launch the film into the US market so soon after its success in Berlin.”

Says Sarah Noonan, Curious Films: “Curious is proud to be the distributor of The Rocket in Australia and New Zealand. Curious is also very proud to have been chosen to complete post-production work on the film, which was a complex and rewarding creative challenge.”

The Rocket is set to be released by Curious Distribution in cinemas nationally later this year.
