The Collective 01: commercial photographers’ creativity showcased at Head On Photo Festival – June 13-25 at Kaleidoscope Gallery, Chippendale

image006.jpgThe Collective 01, opening at Chippendale’s Kaleidoscope Gallery on 13 June and part of the wider Head On Photo Festival, is an exhibition showcasing the personal photographic art projects of Australia’s leading advertising and portrait photographers held at Kaleidoscope Gallery, 30 O’Connor Street Chippendale. Opening night – 6pm, 13 June 2013.

Curated by Sydney photographer Simon Bernhardt, The Collective 01 exhibition is a showcase of the talent within the Australian commercial photography scene and features creative portraiture photographs by Robin Sellick, Fiona Wolf, Toby Burrows, Graham Monro, Liz Ham, Ingvar Kenne and Sean Izzard.

image004.jpgSays Bernhardt, who is also exhibiting two works: “The Collective 01 exhibition was initially inspired by my own personal photographic art projects. There is often a stigma attached to commercial and portrait photographers producing personal work that is classified, displayed and sold as ‘art’.

“I am always appealing to others that there is a general lack of understanding and appreciation of photography as an art form – it’s really down to education I believe. The Collective 01 is, I hope, the start of many more similar exhibitions in the near future.”

The selected commercial and portrait photographers are people whose professional and personal work is greatly admired by Bernhardt. Each artist brings their own style and something very unique to the exhibition.
