Australian Young Lions Paul Den (right) and Kristine Ballensky (left) have been won Silver in the International Young Lions Media competition announced in Cannes last night for their ‘Notes on Notes’ idea.

Den and Ballensky, both from UM Sydney, were given 24 hours to respond to a media brief for Médecins Sans Frontières to help drive donations.

The pair recognised the requirement to create direct connections with potential donors.

Says Den: “We chose a channel that has more personal exchanges with consumers than any other – money.”

‘Notes on Notes’ saw the placement of 250,000 stickers on British pounds that said ‘The last person holding this note wasn’t ready to donate it across the border. Are you?’

Says Den: “We then asked doctors and existing donors to put the stickers on the notes in their wallets so when they spent it, the message goes into circulation organically, encouraging others to donate to Medical Sans Frontier.”

Says Ballensky and Den: “We had such an incredible experience representing Australia and News Limited. We cannot wait to get back home and celebrate with everyone.”
