digital economy.jpgA Google Australia commissioned report, produced by Deloitte Access Economics and titled ‘The Connected Small Business Report’ has highlighted the importance of digital engagement for small businesses in Australia.

The report reveals that small businesses with high levels of digital engagement are twice as likely to grow, earn double the revenue per employee and are four times more likely to be hiring than those with low digital engagement.

With these findings in mind, more than 100 local government and regional development organisations across Australia have joined forces with the Broadband Today Alliance and the digital training organisation The Creative Collective, to deliver the first Australia-wide Get Up To Speed digital training program starting in August 2013.

Broadband Today Alliance spokesman, Michael Whereat said that enrolling in the Get Up To Speed Program would enable small business owners and employees across Australia to understand the ins and outs of social media, web design, search engine optimisation and digital marketing in just 12 weeks.

Says Whereat: “More than 100 local government and regional development organisations are working closely with the Broadband Today Alliance and the Creative Collective to enable everyday Aussies to engage with the digital economy through training around current and emerging digital technologies. One of the great things about the Get Up To Speed Program is that it’s delivered online allowing course participants to study in a flexible manner around their work and family commitments.”

CEO of the Creative Collective, Yvette Adams has delivered the Get Up To Speed program to more than 500 participants to date and says she’s constantly surprised at how the program impacts on the way people do business.

Says Adams: “Every aspect of business can be conducted online these days but If you don’t have a clear idea of what is available to you, or a clear strategy of how you can utilise these tools, you really are hindering your business and need to commit to getting up to speed with it all, hence the name of the program, it doesn’t matter if you live in Orange, Melbourne or Margaret River. We encourage all Australian small business owners and employees to enrole in the August Get Up To Speed Program and learn how to manage their business more effectively.”
