Awards2012_004.jpgSydney’s AWARD Copy School is open for enrolments for a week of intensive learning from some of Australia’s top copywriters and creative directors.

AWARD Copy School will be held at Newspaper Works, Level 2, The Terrace, 60 Union St,  Pyrmont, Sydney from Monday 16th September to Friday 20th September.

To enrol or for further information about Copy School, please contact Tesha Jones on (02) 8297 3877 or tesha@communicationscouncil.org.au.

Justin Drape (chief creative officer at The Monkeys), Tom McFarlane (Asia Pacific, US regional creative director at M&C Saatchi), and David Nobay (creative chairman at Droga5) are among the list of leading creatives enlisted to guide this year’s students through the disciplines and understanding required from today’s copywriters. Now in its ninth year, AWARD Copy School helps young creatives to recognise the commercial reality of why a client is spending money and what they expect in return.

Says AWARD chairman and ECD at JWT, Mark Harricks: “Clients don’t spend money on creative because they are patrons of the arts – they do it because they want their businesses to grow. It is important that young copywriters recognise this business imperative and learn how to apply their artistic talents in a commercial arena. Rewards and awards not should be an objective, but a consequence of effective commercial creativity.”

Other industry creatives leading the course, include: creative consultant, Rocky Ranallo, copywriter, Mark Sharman, co-founder of The Glue Society, Jonathan Kneebone, and Big Red Group’s Ted Horton. In addition, students will attend a session with Fairfax Media’s Garry Linnell (group editorial director), and AFR’s Rowan Dean (AFR journalist and former AWARD chairman), offering young writers a journalistic perspective.
