Tom Gibson.jpgTom Gibson, general manager and executive producer at Australasian production company Film Construction is leaving the company after almost six years to embark on independent projects.

Over the last six years Gibson has traveled extensively throughout Asia developing and driving the Film Construction brand into a number of markets including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand.

“I’ve had a fantastic six years at Film Construction and I’ve been very proud to be a part of it,” said Gibson. “We’ve supported our established directors to do great work, and launched some great new talent and careers on both sides of the Tasman. I have been lucky enough to work along side some very talented individuals and have been fully supported every step of the way by Film Construction owners Peter Hewitt and Perry Bradley.”

“On my trips to Asia I have learnt a hell of a lot, made some great friends, and have had heaps of fun along the way. Now I am eager to build upon this knowledge looking to opportunities in Asia or with companies who are passionate about these markets.”

Whilst this is an end of an era for Gibson, he will continue to support and produce projects both here and abroad for director and long time friend, Perry Bradley.

“It’s now time for me to take a short break, reenergise the batteries and look at what my next challenge is to be.”

Former Film Construction director David Wood said Gibson had been a huge factor in his career: “Tom looks after his people and pushes them (in the good way). He was the guy who invited me to move to Sydney to join Film Construction and less than 2 years later I’ve been lucky enough to have completed a pile of jobs and worked with some great creatives both here and abroad. He’s committed to his people and the industry in general and he’s also a bloody nice guy. Whatever he does next – it will be quality”.

Justin McMillan also directed many jobs with Gibson: “Tommy Gibson is someone I loved working with. He see’s the big picture and is passionate about the creative side of this business which is something difficult to hold onto in the current market. Tom always supported my long form endeavors and fought to get me back into the advertising scene which I’ll always appreciate. He’s a honest bloke who genuinely loves film making not just making money”.

Director Steve Saussey of Stuff and Nonsense added: “Equally at ease in the boardrooms of Asia, the studios of Australasia or the the mean streets of the Cote d’Azur, Tom is a guy who gets it done with a surprisingly steely determination tempered by an effortless, low-key flair. I’ve loved working with him because he not only understands great work, he doggedly works to create the conditions to bring it to life. But don’t tell him I said that.”
