Text 100 head of digital Karalee Evans heads to DDB Sydney for new head of social media role
DDB Sydney has further strengthened its social media and planning offer with the hire of Karalee Evans as the new head of social media. Evans will be replacing James Quinlan, who is leaving to head to New York.
Evans joins the agency after building the social and digital offering as Head of Digital at Text 100. She has previously held roles as social strategy manager at Amnesia as well as director of communications for Headspace, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation.
Says Leif Stromnes, managing director, Strategy and Innovation at DDB Sydney: “It was Karalee’s keen interest in the evolution of communications, sociology and consumers relationships with converging digital platforms that made her a perfect fit for this role.
“DDB has built a bespoke social team that uses multi channel platforms to track social stats in real-time helping clients radically improve customer service and predict consumer sentiment, with the ultimate goal of increasing their productivity.”
Adds Stromnes: “We will miss James’ passion and thought leadership in the building but we wish him all the best as he follows his heart to the Big Apple”.
Says Evans: “Over the past six years or so I have seen social go from a novelty, to an add-on to now being the heart of many global brands. It’s a great time to work with clients to build social into their brand’s DNA and joining DDB Sydney to partner their iconic clients on this journey is an amazing challenge.”

How long will this type of position last?

It’s sentences like this that make me ashamed of the industry I work in.
I think these types of roles will last as long as people engage and interact online. Wouldn’t you agree Dr. Fad?
It’s probably safe to assume that the next generation of ECD’s won’t require heads of social as they will be heads of social themselves. Right at this moment we are amidst a strange skill divide. Yoof is trying to take the reigns, but so far the best we can do are these cruddy heads of social positions, because for some reason we still expect that traditional mediums have a legitimate future ahead.
