The NTEU urges Australians to ‘vote smart’ in new campaign via Republic of Everyone

shoulders.jpgRepublic of Everyone, has launched a new campaign supporting funding for higher education.

The national campaign, “Vote Smart,” highlights the doubling in size of university classes, it being a good depiction of the many challenges currently facing university staff and students as a result of recent cuts and years of underfunding.

Says Kevin Rouse, NTEU SA division secretary: “As the campaign TV ad demonstrates, the chronic underfunding of higher education means the ratio of students to staff has almost doubled in a generation. We have a situation where student numbers are increasing as are funding cuts – so university staff will be doing less with less, and this will impact on the quality of education.”

The national campaign aims to ensure that the only party that is defending funding for higher education, The Greens, retains its balance of power in the Senate.

Scott Matyus-Flynn, partner & head of strategy, Republic of Everyone: “We all know the quality of higher education is important to the nation’s future. But we don’t all know about the cuts and underfunding. We’re proud to be supporting the issues that matter for the following generations – it’s what Republic of Everyone’s all about.”

Republic of Everyone won the work in a three way tender. They are also running campaigns for the Greens and the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre this election.
