TSA2863_1891 PAPER_cover_lores.jpgThe Strand Arcade has unveiled its debut issue of 1891, a quarterly paper featuring the curated and covetable style found in one of Australia’s most nostalgic and iconic settings via Studio Woo.

1891 launches Spring Summer 2013, a season that is the Strand Arcade’s most inspiring not just for its chic innovation but also for its storytelling.

Drawn to someone who captures the spirit and irreverence of their generation, the Strand Arcade chose super stylist Meg Gray as The Curator of the inaugural issue. Gray styled the paper’s fashion editorial zeroing in on her favourite mood of the season – heavenly layerings in light-as-air shapes and soft shades of vanilla and candy, proving that spring really is the ultimate sweetener.

01_130627_01_0083 1.jpgShot by emerging fashion photographer Holly Blake the editorial features women’s and men’s looks from the Strand Arcade’s leading designers including Lover, Sass & Bide, Alex Perry, Manning Cartell, Akira, Anaessia, Christopher Esber at The Corner Shop, Terry Biviano, Farage, Fred Perry, Hunt Leather and Strand Hatters.

Celebrating all that makes the Strand Arcade community so unique is the feature We Are The Makers shot by the incredible Hugh Stewart. Stewart’s talent for storytelling captures the masterful skills behind the artisans of the arcade – Lover, Dinosaur Designers, Andrew McDonald Shoemaker and Pendolino Restaurant. This video and photographic series 04_130627_04_0399 2_CMYK.jpgdelves into these artists intriguing view points and their utter commitment to their craft.

The paper also highlights the Strand Arcade’s new retailers Scanlan and Theodore, Hunt Leather, Skin and Threads and Aveda.

1891 is a tribute to the very unique aesthetics and luxurious qualities that define the Strand Arcade, and have done since 1891.
