Samsung Electronics Australia launches ‘The Shoot’ film competition and campaign with NIDA and The Sydney Opera House via Edelman

Samsung Electronics Australia has announced ‘The Shoot‘ – a national competition offering 10 young Aussie filmmakers the opportunity to make a short film that will premiere at the Sydney Opera House, of which, Samsung is a principle partner via Edelman. The competition coincides with the global launch of some of the company’s latest devices the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone and the Galaxy Gear watch. The local pricing and availability of these devices will be announced shortly.

Winners of The Shoot will spend six days at NIDA making a short film, and will get the chance to work with world-class film industry talent – including Baz Luhrmann.

Samsung has launched ‘The Shoot’ with a fully integrated campaign, including digital, print and outdoor advertising, experiential, PR and web and mobile sites, led by Edelman and supported by media agency Starcom. The campaign will also include a series of branded content pieces that will reveal behind the scenes footage of the young filmmakers’ journeys while showcasing its technology during the creative process.

“With the help of NIDA and one of its most famous graduates, Baz Luhrmann, winners will use our latest technology including the Samsung Galaxy Note 3* and Samsung Galaxy Gear*, to help them create a short film, that will premiere at the Sydney Opera House as part of its official 40th Anniversary celebrations.”

The competition is open to Australians aged between 17 and 24, 10 of whom will be flown to Sydney for a six-day workshop with NIDA from Monday, September 30 to Saturday, October 5, 2013.

Winners of ‘The Shoot’ will also be among the first in the country to receive Samsung’s soon-to-be released Samsung Galaxy Note 3* and the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Gear*, which they’ll use throughout the filmmaking process.
