Seventh month of consecutive growth for metro radio advertising revenue, up 5.64% via Deloitte

image003-thumb-400x156-124343.jpgAugust has seen the commercial radio industry post its seventh consecutive month of growth in metropolitan advertising revenue. Total advertising spend reached $61.169 million, up 5.64% on August 2012, according to the 2013 Metropolitan Commercial Radio Advertising Revenue, as sourced by Deloitte.

After posting a strong result in July, Melbourne radio stations once again recorded a significant increase, up 10.15% to $18.805 million. Perth climbed 8.03% to $8.482 million, Adelaide rose 5.57% to $5.728 million, Sydney reached $18.948 million, up 2.83%, and Brisbane improved by 0.86% to $9.206 million.

Says Joan Warner, chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia: “Metropolitan commercial radio has achieved positive revenue growth for the last seven months with the Federal election contributing to an excellent August result.”

Figures for the first two months of FY 14 are up in all markets. Melbourne has been the most notable performer, up 12.08% to $36.698 million. Perth rose by 7.12% to $15.866 million, Adelaide was up 6.93% to $10.829 million, Sydney increased by 4.96% to $36.953 million and Brisbane grew 2.88% to $17.867 million.

Says Warner: “The radio industry continues to perform notwithstanding uncertain economic conditions.”

The Deloitte figures report actual revenue received by metropolitan commercial radio stations for the calendar month and include all metropolitan agency and direct revenue.
