Social Playground brings the Polaroid into the digital age with Live Instagram Printer launch
The traditional photo booth merges with social photo-sharing app Instagram with the launch of Social Playground’s Live Instagram Printer.
Built for events but ready for permanent installation, the Live Instagram Printer captures photos tagged with a specific hashtag and prints a high quality, Polaroid-style photo – all in less than 30 seconds.
Carrying the nostalgia of an instant Polaroid photo into the digital age, the Live Instagram Printer enables anyone with a smartphone to Instagram and print their favourite photos, instantly. The concept drives online buzz around a brand’s hashtag by inspiring consumers to tag their photos at events, brand activations or even in-store.
Post-event, photos are collected in an online gallery that can be branded or embedded on a website to drive social sharing and conversation even further.
Social Playground’s co-founder and business director, Annabelle Smith witnessed the live Instagram printing craze firsthand in the US and saw an opportunity to bring it to the Australian market.
Says Smith: “I was running digitally-integrated events in NYC and had used the Live Instagram Printer with a number of clients. On returning to Australia and discovering it was yet to make it here, I jumped on the opportunity.”
The product is the first from start-up Social Playground, a creative lab that bridges the gap between online and the real world through live digital experiences. The agency was co-founded and funded by Matt Barbelli, owner of digital agency, Frank Digital. Plans are underway for more products including a live social media projection and RFID event-integrations, ensuring Australian brands have access to cutting edge live digital technologies.
Social Playground licenses it’s products on a per event basis, providing a more cost effective solution than building bespoke experiences for every event.
Says Barbelli: “Our reasonable licensing rates allow brands to capitalize on the latest trends, without having to fork out tens of thousands of dollars. At the same time, we have the team at Frank Digital to customize experiences if a brand wants it.”
The Live Instagram Printer is available to hire for single or multi-day events ranging from brand activations, festivals, weddings and expos, or for permanent installations such as retail stores.

This is basically a rip off of other businesses. And their prices are much higher.
What a joke to say the prices are reasonable!
We tried to organise it for an event and found them rude and disorganised.
