1_PARTOFME_01.jpgSydney Opera House celebrated its 40th birthday with a gala event of performances on the building’s famous steps on Sunday – and to screen pre-show, the House commissioned creative production house VERSUS Media to create a series of video tributes.

The four-part series ‘A Part Of Us’ focuses on the different ways the Sydney Opera House has become part of the nation’s cultural identity as told through the eyes of SOH employees, performers, politicians, architects and the public, as well as its role within the city into the future.

1_PARTOFME_05.jpgVanessa Duscio, Head of Media and SOHP Marketing, Sydney Opera House said of the brief: “We set out to create a series of stunning birthday tributes, with our goal being to focus on the different ways the Opera House has become a part of ‘Us’; our collective identity.”

Tanya Babic, creative director and co-owner of VERSUS said: “It was kind of a dream brief for us. Make something beautiful to celebrate an absolute icon. We suggested a four-part talent-led campaign with each video focusing on a different way in which the House has helped shape Australia’s cultural identity.”

Adds Ms Duscio: “A Part of Us gives people a glimpse into the relationships people have with the Opera House from a former construction worker, to a ferry master, an actor, artist, chef, to a music therapist and architect… We wanted to draw on that deep sense of pride Australians feel on the eve of our 40th Anniversary, and to increase the sense of ownership of, and identification and engagement with the Opera House across the local and international community. And I think VERSUS delivered that in spades.”

In the week leading up to last night’s event, the House also shared the individual videos through its community via its website and 300,000 strong weekly e-newsletter, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and on Tourism Australia’s Facebook page.

Sydney Opera House and VERSUS have become regular collaborators in recent months with branded video content for the venue’s website and YouTube channel, promoting the widening of the House’s contemporary music and arts programs.

As well as for SOH, VERSUS Media has led creative video campaigns for Sydney’s most highly regarded arts venues including Art Gallery of NSW, CarriageWorks and Kaldor Public Art Projects.
