thirst.jpgChampioned by Thirsty Camel bottleshops, the search for Australia’s official Beer O’Clock time has been thirsty work with almost 10,000 people across the country casting their votes over the last month, part of a campaign via T20 Group.

Almost 10% of voters thought 12.00pm was the perfect time to crack a cold one, with another 11% voting for a more respectable time of 4.00pm.

However, overwhelmingly a 5.00pm clock off was the preferred time for 15% of participants, while a whopping 53% of voters nominated Beer O’Clock at varying times between 4.00pm and 6.00pm.

What’s the nation’s tipple of choice when 5.00pm finally does roll around? According to 22% of voters it’s a chilled bottle of Corona, while 17% think it’s Carlton Draught and 15% selected a stubbie of Pure Blonde. Over 200 different beers were selected by voters ranging from craft and boutique varieties to traditional Aussie classics, while cider and wine also featured as favourites.

Beer O’Clock ambassador Mick Molloy said it was a relief that Australians had finally settled on a time for this most important moment in any given day.

Says Molloy: “Beer O’Clock is the time every worker craves, no matter whether you’re a tradie or an office suit.

“While I was happy to run with midday, 5.00pm is the official time to be celebrated so get down the pub with your mates and co-workers and toast the occasion.”

Thirsty Camel’s marketing director Leah Grinter was thrilled with the enthusiastic response to the poll and is glad that Aussie drinkers have finally had their say on a much debated topic.

Says Grinter: “Beer O’Clock has been an intangible notion that entered the nation’s consciousness years ago and one that has since stimulated conversation in drinking holes across Australia.”

The poll ran from 14 October to 10 November, with 9,759 votes cast nationally.
