Carol Morris_GM_UN LTD.jpgIn 2013, Australia’s most influential media companies have united behind the industry not-for-profit body UN LTD (previously MAYDAY) to tackle the consequences of youth disadvantage that affects over 680,000 young people in Australia today, and have raised a colossal $1.5m.

UN LTD Media is the original funds generation vehicle for UN LTD and since 2006 it has distributed over $8m in value to fund programs that meet UN LTD’s community impact and success criteria for “UN doing” youth disadvantage.

The UN LTD movement supports the most innovative and effective youth non-for-profit organisations in providing critical services to young people deemed most at need.

Disadvantage takes many forms, for instance, abuse, neglect, homelessness, mental and physical illness, grief, loss and injustice. UN LTD disperse funds and media, marketing and advertising resources to a portfolio of beneficiaries each year and work with each organisation to support groundbreaking outcomes and sustained impact.

UN LTD today operates under three pillars that enable every individual in the media, marketing and advertising industry to contribute in a meaningful way:

  • UN LTD Media – Cash funding and media contributions
  • UN LTD Mentor – Corporate mentoring skills to support beneficiary organisations
  • UN LTD Giving – Giving through pre-tax payroll giving, corporate fundraising and team volunteering

Says Carol Morris, general manager at UN LTD: “I had the great privilege of meeting a young girl recently that turned to self-harming on a daily basis because of the horrific abuse and neglect she suffered at the hands of her mother’s drug and alcohol addiction, and her mother’s sexually abusive partner. This young girl said to me that joining Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD – one of UN LTD’s beneficiaries) had literally saved her life. Her self-harming has ceased and for the first time she sees a future that she never thought was possible. For me, the impact of that message speaks to the purpose of UN LTD – powered by the collective talent and influence of our industry.”
