Yezerski collaborated with Drift co-directors Morgan O’Neill and Ben Nott, producers Michele Bennett, Myles Pollard and Tim Duffy, along with music supervisor Andrew Kotatko to create a musical score that would evoke the sounds of the 1970s and transition seamlessly with the film’s source tracks.

Says Yezerski: “It’s a great honour to receive this nomination and it’s fantastic to get industry recognition for Drift. It’s a film I’m immensely proud of and I was very pleased to be a part of such a skilled team of filmmakers.”

Drift.jpegStarring Sam Worthington, Lesley-Ann Brandt and Xavier Samuel, the film tells the story of two brothers growing up in the ’70s who battle killer waves, a conservative society and ruthless bikers to kick-start the modern surf industry. While the score is contemporary, it clearly references the sounds of the era.

Says Yezerski: “We used period instruments and recording equipment to create the sound. I was fortunate to work with three outstanding vocalists in Nylon Studios’ Guy Brown (Mammals) and Nathaniel Joyce, along with artist Gyan, whose ethereal sound lifted the music to another realm.”

Drift has also been honoured at the AACTA in the categories of Best Cinematography and Best Original Screenplay. Also up for seven AACTA nominations (including Best Picture of the Year) is The Turning; a film Yezerski also worked on this year writing the score for its title chapter.

Says Yezerski: “I am thrilled to be a part of two filmmaking teams that have both received major recognition at the country’s most respected film and TV industry awards.”
