Founded in the last days of 1998, the independent creative collective today includes founders Gary Freedman and Jonathan Kneebone alongside partners Matt Devine, Pete Baker, Luke Crethar, James Dive and Paul Bruty in addition to studio producer, Sophia Kaplan.

The various writers, directors and artists in the group work from studios in Sydney and New York.

In Australia, The Glue Society is represented for film direction by Revolver – and by Will O’Rourke for the direction of unconventional projects beyond film.

Says Kneebone: “When we started The Glue Society, we were relatively unsure whether we would see the end of our first year, let alone reach fifteen.

“We have been fortunate throughout our early years to collaborate with some of the world’s best agencies, creative directors, clients and marketing directors. And that has allowed us to continue to explore and evolve into new creative areas.

“We set out to see if we could bring creative ideas and creative executions closer together. And hoped to allow art and commerce to co-exist in the same space.

“This year, we’ve moved to a new studio which we hope will allow us to continue what has been a very enjoyable, ongoing and somewhat experimental journey.”

Across its 15 years, The Glue Society has developed a uniquely diverse output across the communication arts.

The Glue Society’s work encompasses everything from broadcast entertainment, graphic design and television advertising to film direction, art exhibitions and sculpture.

In addition to winning recognition at every international advertising festival – for both concept and craft – The Glue Society has received numerous Grands Prix and a Titanium Award for groundbreaking work at Cannes.

They were chosen as a Feature Artist for Art & About, Sydney and were awarded the Main Prize at Sculpture by the Sea in Denmark.

The collective has written and directed its own sketch horror show, Watch with Mother, which broke new ground after being released as an App.

As directors, The Glue Society recently became the second most awarded in the world (The Gunn Report, 2012).

They have been recognised as one of Sydney’s leading creative companies and were described by Creativity Magazine as ‘experts in things that haven’t been done before’.
