Financial guru Alan Kohler reckons the ‘Not Happy, Jan’ commercial created by Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne for Yellow Pages in 2000 was the harbinger of Sensis’s eventual fate.
Writes Kohler on his Business Spectator site: The 30-second commercial shows a small business that missed that year’s Yellow Pages directory because an employee – Jan – forgot. Jan ends up running down the street with those words ringing in her ears. READ ON….

pfft, as if this caused its downfall. i still very occasionally hear people say “not happy jan”. it’s a memorable catch phrase. although i didnt associate it with yellow/white pages.
the reason sensis is dying/dead is because of Google. if i need to find a phone number, i dont go to white pages or yellow pages, i type it in to google.
they cant compete with that.
It’s funny, everyone says their losing out to google but they are actually the biggest reseller of google in australia, they simply don’t make as much money from this as they did the books…
“dying industry” that data you love so much in google comes from Yellow pages data.
