The campaign will include television commercials that begin airing on Sky News this evening, ahead of a reception in federal parliament tomorrow to promote the industry before an audience of politicians, officials and regulators.

Says Andrew Maiden, Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association CEO: “As a service, subscription television already enjoys widespread public support with seven million Australians tuning in every month to enjoy high quality programs.

“As an industry, our challenge is to ensure key decision-makers appreciate the degree that subscription television serves the national interest by creating jobs, boosting economic activity, driving innovation and creativity, and providing Australians with more diverse sources of news and entertainment.”

Three 30 second commercials featuring the tagline “We Have Quite A Story To Tell” have been cut from a six minute long promotional reel featuring Deborah Hutton, Matt Moran as well as Scottish television presenter and celebrated author, Neil Oliver.

Sky News is represented by presenters David Speers, Paul Murray, James Bracey and Brooke Corte.

Maiden said the campaign would run for several months across subscription television channels owned by independent channel groups as well as Foxtel.

He said it would coincide with the release of a 24 page report showcasing the industry and calling for reform to anti-siphoning and piracy laws.

ASTRA is the industry body representing the subscription television industry in Australia.  Since November 2013 it has been chaired by leading business figure Tony Shepherd AO.

ASTRA’s members include Foxtel, Telstra, advertising sales agencies MCN and Ignite, technology firms and independent media groups operating more than 50 television channels including BBC, Disney, Discovery, Turner International and Viacom.

The industry invests $700 million in the local television production sector each year, creating 6600 jobs and adding $1.6 billion to the economy.
