Simon Rutherford_Slingshot.jpegSlingshot Media is opening a Melbourne office after winning all media duties for iconic Australian company SPC Ardmona, owner of brands including Goulburn Valley, SPC, IXL, Ardmona, Henry Jones and Taylor’s.

SPC Ardmona will become Slingshot’s foundation client in Melbourne, with the independent agency pitching against an undisclosed number of agencies to secure the business. Ikon previously managed the account.

Slingshot will handle media strategy and buying across all of SPC Ardmona’s brands with work starting immediately.

The Melbourne expansion follows a period of significant business and staff growth for the agency that was founded five years ago by experienced media industry practitioner Simon Rutherford (pictured), along with business partners Steve Douglas and Simon Corbett.

Rutherford said Slingshot was already moving to establish a base in the Victorian capital, identifying other potential new clients and talent ahead of a drive to build on the momentum of the SPC Ardmona win.

Says Rutherford: “We are thrilled to have won this pitch, we delivered some of our best work to win it and we can’t wait to bring those ideas to life. There’s a lot of consumer love for the SPC brand, as we’ve seen in social forums and in recent press, so we couldn’t be happier to have them as our foundation client in Melbourne.”

Says Bronwyn Powell, marketing and innovation director at SPC Ardmona: “Our business is undergoing major transformation, we have a small lean marketing team and through the pitch process Slingshot proved that they would be the ideal strategic partner to guide us and help us innovate in what is becoming a very complex media landscape. We get access to their senior team of talented people and SPC are very excited about working with them.”

Rutherford added Slingshot’s move into Melbourne would offer an alternative to potential clients in the city.

Says Rutherford: “We’ve always had ambitions of being in Melbourne, particularly as there has been a number of pitches that we’ve not been considered for because we didn’t have offices there, that’s about to change.

There are some great agencies in Melbourne, however I think the injection of an independent media strategy agency could shake things up a bit.”
