Semi Permanent.jpgSemi-Permanent, the world’s most inspiring design event will be held at Carriageworks 22-24 May. CB readers will get a 20% discount by entering SPCB when booking online.

Semi-Permanent will also debut a new experimental platform for interactive storytelling in partnership with Google.

Developed by Google’s Sydney Creative Lab, the new project will allow filmmakers, musicians, artists and other creatives to make interactive films where the viewer controls the narrative structure. The first public installation is collaboration between Google, Semi-Permanent, and the acclaimed directors Steve Ayson and Damien Shatford.

Filmmaker and luminary Mike Mills will also be a part of this year’s program.

One of the most inspiring creatives of our time, Mills will be in conversation and sharing a rare look inside his environment in Los Angeles via live video link. He will not only discuss his career, spanning graphic design, illustration and film making but will walk the audience through his world, an extremely rare behind-the- scenes exclusive for Semi-Permanent attendees. There will also be a screening of the MJZ collection that includes pioneering work by Mike Mills, Chris Cunningham, and Spike Jonze.

Semi-Permanent is evolving into a festival of art, design and creativity. Other 2014 speakers will include: Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, discussing the building of the Hawk brand with long- time friend and collaborator, former Australian skateboarding champion, Corbin Harris. Controversial artist Mr Brainwash will discuss his relationship with Banksy and how he has progressed as an artist since the Exit Through the Gift Shop documentary.

The above speakers will headline alongside a line-up of inspiring creative minds from all over the world including: John Jay, Andrew Denton, Cheryl Dunn, Ben Lowy, Tara McPherson, Paul Belford, MAUD + Henry Wilson, Toby + Pete, Curvy panel (including co-founder Melissa Bergin, Elke Kramer, Claire Martin + Kelly Thompson).

The event at Carriageworks will host three days of presentations, exhibitions, installations, screenings and workshops, including a D&AD hosted discussion between trustee Tom Uglow and multi award winning UK based artist Kate Moross.

The event is the opening event of the Vivid Festival and the parties will be hosted with FBi Radio.

From 2014 to 2016, Semi-Permanent will be supported by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency – Destination NSW.
