eddybellaward.jpg8’s Eddy Bell (left) has taken home the Rouben Mamoulian Award for Best Director at last night’s Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films, part of Sydney Film Festival, for his short film Grey Bull.

With a cast of predominantly non-trained talent unearthed from within Melbourne’s South Sudanese refugee community, Grey Bull looks at the theme of identity in an unfamiliar culture and demonstrates what people are often asked to leave at the door when they arrive in a new place.

Says Natasha Pincus, SFF Dendy Jury member: “If this crop of short films reflects what is happening in our industry right now, and where we are headed, then these are very exciting times for Australian film.”

The Dendy Awards for Australian Short Film have been sponsored by Dendy Cinema for 26 years and these awards have launched and aided the careers of many great Australian filmmakers.
