AWARD School graduates kick off in Melbourne at Smart Artz Gallery, Thursday, June 19th, 2014
The Communications Council’s first 2014 AWARD School graduation ceremony is set to take place at Smart Artz Gallery in Melbourne on Thursday 19th June, celebrating some of Australia’s freshest new creative talent to enter the industry.
A total of 50 students will be recognised for completing the 12 week intensive course, with the evening providing an opportunity to showcase the best creative work to a range of media and industry professionals.
Almost 200 students will graduate from AWARD School over the next few months across Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth. Dates for the upcoming ceremonies are as follows:
Melbourne – Thursday 19th June
Sydney – Tuesday 1st July
Adelaide – Wednesday 2nd July
Brisbane – Thursday 3rd July
Perth – Thursday 3rd July
This year’s AWARD School Heads include: Joe Hawkins (senior creative, Saatchi & Saatchi) and Peter Ogden (creative director, Dentsu) in NSW; David Ponce De Leon (creative director, Dentsu) and Ben Keenan (digital creative director, Clemenger) in VIC; Steve Straw (creative director, 303 Lowe) in WA, Matt O’Grady (creative director, Clemenger) in SA, and; Sarah Chernishov (art director, Sapient Nitro) and Kirsten Twigg (copywriter) in QLD.
The AWARD School program has now been running for more than 30 years; the 2014 graduates follow in the footsteps of many of today’s creative leaders, including past students: Craig Davis, ex-chairman of AWARD and co-chairman & chief creative officer of Publicis Mojo, David Droga, founder and creative chairman of Droga5, and Matt Eastwood, chief creative officer at DDB New York.

Why is it that we need to charge $50 a head to attend a student show? If my lecturer/tutors time was donated where did my 2k go?
More money? For a graduation. And even more for a non-AWARD member.
$2200 for the course. Lectures, tutors and agencies donate their time and resources.
Where does all the money go? I do understand AWARD is a not-for-proffit.
every year we get the same moaning about the $50 fee.
i dont know the balance sheets of AWARD school but hiring venues for 14 consecutive weeks for 50ish people is expensive as is the admin of running the whole thing.
equally, hiring out a venue with catering is also expensive and needs to be paid for.
shit costs money
