MAZDA_SOULS_STILL.jpgFin Design + Effects has been commissioned by Glowy Films (Shanghai) and Argentinian director Diego Pernia, to conceptualize a 60 second brand commercial as part of the second installment of a campaign to launch the new Mazda 6 Atenza into the Chinese market for Saatchi & Saatchi Beijing.

Shot entirely in the South Island of New Zealand, Fin’s team of 3D artists, designers and compositors added particle effects to both the vehicle and surrounding mountainous terrain. An animated CG Cheetah was also created to run along side the Mazda 6 as it navigates it way through the picturesque scenery near Milford Sound. Final Grade was completed by Ben Eagleton.

Says Alastair Stephen, Fin EP: “Due to the tight turnaround of only 3 weeks of post production and the large number of shots requiring FX, we came up with a flexible particle rig that answered the creative brief required over the majority of the TVC. Using a cloth simulation that was driven by a ‘peel off ‘ animation, we wrote a custom plugin to allow the particles to magically disappear into the surface. Led by senior flame artist Richard Betts, our compositors also spent most of the first few weeks compositing the environments together to create another worldly place for the MAZDA6 emancipation to take place.”
