Turning Change.jpgA group of young disability program participants were awarded for their advertising talent at the International Summit Creative Awards On 23rd of May 2014. The group are part of The Portfolio Project, a joint initiative of GWF Creative (formerly Goodwill Freelances) and Disability Services Australia, which seeks to create employment opportunities for young people with disabilities in the advertising industry, by training them on live briefs for real clients. The Portfolio Project is the first program in the world of it’s kind

The award had over 5,000 entries from 24 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Brazil and Australia, to win the prestigious awards. Working with a small team on a meagre budget, The Portfolio Project competed against established creative agencies which bill up to $30 million annually, and placed alongside a $10 million budget campaign in the same category.

Coming off the wins, The Portfolio Project has just released its latest campaign ‘Turning The Tables Changing The World’ to promote the program.

The key message behind the campaign is “Creativity can unlock the pathway into a creative career regardless of who you are, whatever your circumstances or wherever you come from. Ideas can change the world,” says Richard Kahotea, The Portfolio Project co-founder.

Says Duncan Mah, the program’s co-founder: “It’s amazing how these very talented young people turned the tables on what from the outset, would look like something completely unachievable, to win two awards in under a year. This is what the project is about, building confidence through creativity as a platform with real tangible results that showcases talent.”

The campaign was both conceptualized and created by a participant from The Portfolio Project, with Richard, Duncan, design by Sylvia Hoogenbosch, and digital illustration, the centrepiece of the campaign, done by the same young person.

The campaign will be launched through social media and online initially, with further plans to roll it out in other mediums.
