Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has adapted an archival Carlton Draught ad originally created by George Patterson in the 1980s as a way to celebrate the brew which began in Melbourne pubs back in the 1860s.

Says Mick McKeown, Carlton Draught’s marketing manager: “The ad will run throughout July and gives people a great glimpse of our past, questionable fashion and all.”

The ad was slightly refined from its eighties version to talk about the release of the cans, available for a limited time as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations.

Says McKeown: “The white can would be burned into the memories of many of those old enough to drink in the late seventies and early eighties.”

The white can was eventually phased out for a more modern look in the late 80’s.

Says McKeown: “The replica white cans have been released as a tip to the history and heritage of Carlton Draught however the liquid is the same great tasting Carlton Draught consumers enjoy today.”

The heritage cans will be available throughout July or until sold out in Liquorland and First Choice. The ad will be on air on Channel 7 throughout July.
