Art & About Sydney launches new identity and poster series with ‘Endangered’ theme via Toko

Sydney-based design studio Toko has developed a new poster series, and subsequent identity, for Art & About Sydney.

Scattered throughout the city, this year’s work is a response to the festival theme ‘Endangered’.

Says Gill Minervini, creative director, Toko: “In an age where it’s seemingly possible to document almost anything, so many experiences we once took for granted are fast disappearing.”

The bold and colourful lingual and thought provoking “transformations” function as conversation starters.

Poke and provoke. It’s Toko putting a finger on the sensitive spots through a seemingly simple play on words. By deleting or misplacing letters, Toko has created a sense of change, a transition between (current) reality and (future) memory.

Says Minervini: “e.g. the owning of CDs, vinyl or cassettes is rapidly replaced by downloaded virtuality, local shops and brands are feeling the pressure of global operating corporates, and the worldwide web is replacing the shopping bag for a virtual cart. Social lives are now altered by a simple swipe or a “friend” request and the ability to afford the grand Aussie dream is quickly evaporating.”
